New Inspector General of Police assumes duties

A special ceremony was held at the Police Headquarters on 3rd November 2009 to welcome the newly appointed IG Police Mr. Mahinda Balasuriya (Bsc, MPhill) amidst a distinguished gathering.

Mr. Mahinda Balasuriya is the 32nd Inspector General of Police. A guard of honor too was accorded to new IGP.

Addressing the media, the IGP pointed out that his intention is to lead the Police service under the theme “For a people friendly, professional and prestigious police service”. A new Public Assistance Centre for general public will be established with in a short period under the above concept.

Also, he expressed his willingness to meet all level of police officers to looking to their grievances in order to enhance the relationship with the grassroots level, and also to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the police force which has been a long felt need.
