A consignment of 20,000 kgs of substandard tea unfit for consumption which was about to be exported to a Middle Eastern country, has been apprehended on 13th May, 2013 during a joint raid by Special Task Force Headquarters,
The police have received complaints with regard to many incidents where people had been extorted after threatening over the phone under the guise of police officers stating that those callers have access to information regarding such people having been involved in the acts of LTTE and that they will be apprehended and prosecuted unless they deposit a specified amount of money to a given account number.
On 06th May 2013, one suspect was arrested with 74.7 g of Heroin in their possession (Valued Rs.5, 96,853.00) by a team of STF Kelaniya Camp at near to the Sedawatta petrol shed in Grandpass Police area. PNB (Police Narcotic Bureau) are conducting further inquires.
