History:-
The Police Examinations Division had been functioning as a branch of a Police Higher Training Institute earlier. In 2000, it was removed from the Higher Training and established separately on 16/08/2000, as per the IG's circular No 1543/2000.

Responsibility:-
The main objective of the Police Examinations Division is conducting the following Examinations, and other Examinations.

1. Recruitment Examinations.
2. Promotion Examinations.
3. Confirmation Examinations 

Recruiting Examinations

• Recruitment to the rank of Probationary Assistant Superintendents of Police.  (P/ASP)
• Recruitment to the rank of Probationary Sub-Inspectors of Police.  (P/SI)
• ecruitment to the rank of Police Constables/Women Police constables.  (PC/WPC)

Promotion Examinations   

• Promotion Examination from the rank of police constable to the rank of police sergeant.
• Promotion Examination from the rank of police sergeant to the rank of Sergeant Major
• Promotion Examination from the ranks of police sergeant and Sergeant Major to the rank of Sub-Inspector.
• Promotion Examination from the rank of Sub Inspector to the rank of Inspector of Police. 
     

Confirmation and other Quarterly Examinations    

• Confirmation Examination for the recruit Police constables and women police constables ( subjects - Law and practical police work.)
• Conducting of Languages, first aid, swimming and life savings tests according to the IG's Circular No: 2021/2007 for recruit Police constables and women police constables.
• Quarterly Examinations for Acting Assistant Superintendents of Police and   Probationary Assistant Superintendents of Police. (Subjects – Police Orders, Practical Police work, Accounts)
• Confirmation Examination for the Acting Assistant Superintendents of Police and   Probationary Assistant Superintendents of police  (Subjects-Law, Practical Orders & police work)
• Efficiency bar test for the Criminologists. 

Other Examinations   
In addition to above, conducting Examinations on special subjects authorized by Inspector General of Police.
