| Police commemorates 600 Police officers who made the utmost sacrifice. |

It was the most shocking day in the history of the police department that on 11th June 1991, 600 unarmed Police officers were brutally murdered in the eastern province by the LTTE while they were in thier custody. Two minutes silence was observed throughout all police stations to remember these officers started from 0830 AM. The main commemorative ceremony was held at the Police Field Force Headquarters on 11th June 2011 where Chief of Defence Staff Air Marshal Roshan Gunetileke participated as the chief guest along with the acting Inspector General of Police Mr. N.K. llangakoon. Tributes were accorded to those heroic officers on the event.
