| Shiromala brings glory to Police Department and country |

Shiromala Weerarathne of the Sri Lanka Police department won a bronze medal under 69 Kilograms weight category at the Asian boxing championship which was held in Mongolia from 16th March 2012 till 26th March 2012.Players from Seventeen countries including India, Japan, China Thailand, Kazakhstan competed for the event where She beat the Thailand boxer by 19 to 14 runs in her achievement. It’s a significant milestone in the Police Department where for the first time a player from the police has won a medal representing the national team. Prior to this, two Sri Lankan Players have gained medals in different weight categories, representing the Island. Shiromala was born in Beliatte and studied at Heedeliya Kanishta Vidyalaya and Dharmapala Balika Vidyalaya. She has also exhibited her talent in athletics, Kabadi, and Short putts. Also she won the 2001 national School championship and awarded as the best Female athlete. She joined the police force in the year 2006 as a probationary women police constable and rendered her service in several police stations. This talented officer was fortunate enough to be selected for the police boxing team and subsequently excelled in the field by wining several medals including the ones gained at Latent Cup, Clifford Cup and national championship. This versatile officer is a gift to the Police Department and already shown the signs of becoming an Olympic Sporting star in due course.
