The Department of Police which had been functioning under the Ministry of Defence has begun to function under a deferent ministry since 28th of January 2013 today. The Minister of Economic Development, Hon. Mr. Basil Rajapaksha stated that it will create a conducive environment for the Police to discharge their duties getting closer to the public.
Police Department is planning to go ahead with productivity improvement plans to enhance the efficiency of services provided for the public.
Among the plans are naming of the units within a police station at the entrance and a map which directs the public to find the unit easily. They have also instructed senior police officers in charge of the area and the police division to strictly adhere to the 5S concept. Another improvement the Department is making is the allocating of parking slots for public and police vehicles within the premises of any police station.
