A suspect in possession of 3 Kilos of heroin worth Rs. 10,000,000 was apprehended at Mabole , Wattala the day before yesterday (9th).
The motorbike by which the suspect had come was also apprehended. Following a tip-off received by the Police Narcotics Bureau, on a suspicious bike coming towards Wattala from Mahabage, the bike was intercepted at Mabola and this stock of heroin had been found when the bag of the suspect was checked. This has been reported as the largest stock of heroin which had been found recently.

A team from the Special Task Force headquarters, acting on a tip-off on Saturday 9th of February, raided a hideout at Kurukulamba, Ragama of an underworld gang involved in smuggling cigarettes into the country, seized 13,145 cartons (200 cigarettes each) of ''Gold Seal cigarettes'' valued at Rs. 65,625,000 and arrested two suspects.

The Police setup a special operations unit to handle complaints related to religious tensions, in the wake of a rise in such incidents in recent times.

A complaint has been made to the Police station Horana by a person, residing at Aramanagolla on 05th February 2013 with regard to stealing coconut from his land on 04th February 2013. According to this complaint, a 13 year old school girl residing at Aramanagolla, Horana had come to the Police station with her mother. A bag with stealed 08 coconuts, and a knife had also found. investigations has carried out by Police station Horana with regard to this incident and stealing is an offence police cannot be settled ever. It is a punishable offence under section 367 of Sri Lanka Penal Code. The officer in-charge of Police has no authority to bail out a person who is arrested on this charge.

We have heard only stories of sending Narcotics to abroad hiding inside the body, shoes or travelling bags so far. The narcotic racket is getting creative by the time. This was proven when a group who has concealed narcotics in side teddy bears was arrested by the Police yesterday. The Raththota Police has revealed a huge racket of heroin very carefully packed inside teddy bears and had arranged to send these teddy bears to abroad as a gift for a friend through the People leaving for foreign employment.

The Police public relation unit warned the public to be vigilant about fraudsters who deceive people over telephone and via SMS asking people to deposit money to receive a prize of a raffle draw they have won. The PPR Unit also reported that certain phone companies and other private firms reward people with attractive cash prizes after a raffle draw as part of their business promotions and certain individuals take advantage of these instances and deceive people by contacting them via phone or SMS and request them to deposit money by giving them account numbers to receive their prizes.
