A suspect arrested in connection with the Weligama shooting incident.

One of the suspects of the team that shot five people with a T-56 firearm and fled at the dawn of 04.01.2025, on Maha Neviya Road, Weligama, was arrested by officers of the Matara Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau on the evening of 09.01.2025.

It has been revealed that the 29-year-old suspect, who is a resident of Beliatta, was the driver of the motorcar used for getting away after the shooting. After further interrogation, the motorcar used for the shooting was also taken into custody on the evening of the same day by the police officers conducting the investigation.

Investigation officers were also able to apprehend a 24-year-old suspect who arrived on a motorcycle for the shooting on 04.01.2025 along with the motorcycle. A female suspect had also been arrested earlier for aiding and abetting.

A 26-year-old man was killed in the shooting that day, while a 29-year-old man was injured and admitted to the hospital.

Extensive investigations are being conducted to arrest other suspects in connection with the crime.
