16th National War Heroes Commemoration Ceremony under the patronage of His Excellency the President

The 16th National War Heroes Commemoration Ceremony was held on 19.05.2025 under the patronage of His Excellency President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the National War Heroes Memorial in Kotte, Sri Jayewardenepura.

The heroes who were injured during the war were brought to the ceremony site first, followed by the arrival of His Excellency the President and other guests. 

The commemoration ceremony began with a brief moment of silence in memory of the fallen war heroes, and first, His Excellency the President laid a wreath at the War Heroes Memorial.

Police officers, who died in terrorist attacks while performing their duties in the North and East, while providing security to the public, and in the South, were remembered with honor and dignity.

Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda, Marshal of the Air Force Roshan Gunathilaka, Commanders of the tri forces who led the war victory, turning that dream into a reality at a time when peace and reconciliation was a dream for every section of the population living in this country for over 30 years, and Acting Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya participated in this occasion.
