It is a remarkable moment for the Department as Police chiefs from the SAARC Countries will gather in Colombo with in the first week of April 2011 to tackle cross border terrorism in an efficient manner and to find the ways to enhance the cooperation among the law enforcement agencies in SAARC region. In addition, the officials are aiming to discuss ways to counter Narcotic trade. As a country that have experienced a war lasted for three decades Sri Lanka is well aware about the cooperation among the countries as operations carried out with the collaboration were eventually became successful against the fight of terrorism and drug dealing menace.

In the present society there is hardly anyone who is in the dark about the onerous task of ensuring law and order of all the Sri Lankans laid on the shoulders of Department of Police. However, the number of those who are aware of Police Heroes Day has been limited to a handful. Therefore, this letter has been written with the sole intention of raising the public awareness about the Police Heroes, who sacrificed their lives for the Department of Police.
