Police Special Task Force conducts a surprise search in Boossa Prison

A team of officers of the Police Special Task Force Boossa High Security Prison Camp conducted a surprise search in the Prison Hospital and Prison Hospital premises of the Special Unit of Boossa Prison on 03.12.2024.During the search, 05 phone chargers, 08 data cables, 02 lighters and 01 phone charger made from 02 pieces of wire with the outer covering removed, which were prohibited items within the prison hospital and the prison hospital premises, were apprehended and handed over to the prison administration for further investigation.

One of the suspects who killed elderly couple was arrested in Galle Fort

An elderly couple residing in Valhengoda area of Ahangama police area was brutally strangled to death in their house on the night of 03.10.2024. Officers of the Galle Division Criminal Investigation Unit arrested the main suspect who assisted in the murder on 13.11.2024.The officers of Ahangama Police Station and Galle Division Criminal Investigation Unit engaged in a long investigation to arrest Mathew Prasanna and Mohotti Malwattage Batu, who were identified as the suspected killers.Accordingly, the officers of the Ahangama Police Station managed to arrest the 41-year-old suspect Mathew Prasanna, who was living in the Unawatuna area and was hiding, on 04.10.2024 at Galle Fort premises.

Stolen traditional doorway (Makara Thorana) and Buddhist statue recovered, three individuals arrested

A person suspected of stealing a traditional doorway (Makara Thorana) worth twenty million rupees and a metal Buddhist statue, which is yet to be valued, on 28.11.2024 placed at Sri Keththarama Temple in Karagampitigoda, Dewanagala, and two monks suspected of aiding and abetting it, were arrested by the Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau Kegalle on the night of 01.12.2024.The suspect is a 42-year-old hotel owner residing in the Peradeniya area, and the two 29 and 34 year-old monks, were from the temples in the Dompe and Kimbulwila Watta areas.The officers were able to recover the stolen items hidden in the car of the hotel owner, who resides in the Peradeniya area.The three suspects were produced before the Mawanella Magistrate’s Court by the Police Station Mawanella on 02.12.2024 and were remanded in custody until the next hearing on 16.12.2024.Further investigations are underway by the Police Station Mawanella.

A suspect has been arrested for homicide

A 48-year-old man was killed by an unidentified person on 21. 11. 2024 near a Medical Office of Doramure Road, Walasgala. It has been uncovered during the initial investigations that a T-56 type firearm has been used for this homicide. Further investigations regarding the incident has been carried out and a suspect was arrested on 01. 12. 2024 in area of Bambaranda Central, Dickwella. The suspect was produced before the court on 02. 12. 2024. Having obtained detention order, further investigations will be conducted in this regards.

Ice drug and heroin worth more than Rs 220 million found in a lorry.

Two suspects have been arrested today, 26 – 11 – 2024, during a raid conducted in the area of Watareka of Meegoda Police area, by the Special Task Force, for keeping the possession of 57 kg of ice drug and 29 kg of heroin. Value of the drugs stashed away in a lorry parked near a house has been estimated as Rs 220 million. Facts have been revealed during the investigation that the drugs belonged to a large-scale drug smuggler and organized criminal named Unapurawe Shantha. The suspects arrested during the raid are two close relatives of Unapurawe Shantha, and they are at the aged of 41 and 31 years, and residents of Moragahahena and Thalavatugoda areas. Acting Inspector General of Police, Priyantha Weerasuriya (Attorney-at-Law) and Commandant of the Special Task Force, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police, Varuna Jayasundara (Attorney-at-Law) inspected the drugs detained, and instructed to handover the drug to the Police Narcotics Control Bureau. Accordingly, further investigations are being carried out by the Narcotics Control Bureau.

Inspector General of Police visits Matara to inspect the large-scale raid of 220 kg of narcotics

The Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of Matara Division has received a piece of information on trafficking a large quantity of drugs by a van that has been illegally imported to Sri Lanka from Gandara Nunnawella area by a boat on the night of 18.11.2024. Accordingly, the Division Criminal Investigation Bureau, Matara has taken necessary measures and arrested six persons on grounds of vague suspicion. Investigation and interrogation have been carried out and subsequently, three more suspects have been arrested in the areas of Mount and Ratmalana. Further interrogation was conducted, 160 kg of Crystal Meth and 60 kg of HeroinHave been found from a house in Nagoda area and another suspect in connection with this has been arrested. An amount of Rupees Six hundred and fifteen thousand uncovered from the suspects, has been taken into the custody of the Police Officers. The suspects are at the age between 20 and 40 and they are residents of Devinuwara, Gandara, Matugama, Yakkalamulla, Beliaatta, Nagoda, Maharagama, Ratmalana and Welipanna. On the orders of the Inspector General of Police, Police Narcotics Bureau will conduct further investigations based on the information that has been disclosed to arrest the main suspects who imported the said quantity of narcotics into Sri Lanka.

08 People Arrested In Connection With the Murder of Fishermen –Medigama

The Matara Division Criminal Investigation Bureau investigated the crime of killing a person engaged in fish business and seriously injuring two others near the Goiyapana Bridge in Midigama on 19.09.2024 by coming on a motorcycle and shooting with a T.56 firearm and a pistol type firearm. 08 suspects involved in that crime were arrested on 03.11.2024 along with a pistol-type firearm and 05 rounds of ammunition. Among the suspects are the suspect who came on a motorcycle and shot with a pistol, a suspect who kept the weapon and 05 rounds of ammunition after the crime, and 05 other suspects who aided and abetted the crime and one female suspect. These suspects are between the ages of 20 and 42 and are residents of Wellawaya, Weligama, Ahangama and Midigama areas and officers of the Matara Division Criminal Investigation Bureau have taken action to arrest them in those areas. Police have seized Rs. 1,542,000- rupees suspected to have been earned from heroin smuggling in the possession of the suspect residing at Weligama who was in possession of the pistol, and it has been revealed that he is a close relative of a person who is carrying out organized crime and drug smuggling in this country from a foreign country. The Matara Division Criminal Investigation Bureau is conducting a lengthy investigation in connection with them.

Police Special Task Force apprehends the largest quantity of heroin that has been seized in recent times.

A married couple has been taken into custody for the possession of 53 kilo grams and 65 grams of heroin, during a raid conducted in the Kiriwewa area of the Sewanagala Police Area by the Police Special Task Force and handed them over to the Police Narcotics Bureau.During the inspection of the premises, this quantity of heroin was found carefully hidden in three plastic containers buried in the yard.While carrying out further investigations, it was also revealed that the suspect arrested is the sister of Omalpage Dhammika Samankumara, the person who was arrested in possession of heroin in the Piliyandala area on 30.10.2024 by the officers of the Special Task Force.
