A new building for the Children and Women’s Bureau Unit at Opanayake Police Station

The new Children and Women’s Bureau building, constructed with all the necessary facilities within the Opanayake Police Station in the Ratnapura Division, was opened on the evening of 20.07.2025 under the patronage of the Acting Inspector General of Police, Attorney-at-Law, Priyantha Weerasooriya, with the participation of the Senior DIG in charge of the Sabaragamuwa Province, Mahinda Gunaratne.  The aim of establishing the Children and Women’s Bureau with modern facilities is to create a suitable environment for children and women in the area to file a complaint regarding a problem they have encountered or a crime they have faced, while protecting their privacy, and to create a suitable working environment to act to prevent crimes against them. This work will continue to be carried out in police stations across the island under the financial support of the United Nations Population Fund, and this building is one of the buildings constructed in this way. Senior officers of the province, including the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Ratnapura District, Manjula Mahagirilla, the Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of the Ratnapura Division, Kapila Premadasa, participated in this event.

A new Crime Investigation Division covering the Sabaragamuwa Province is declared open

The Sabaragamuwa Province Crime Investigation Division, which was established at the Kuruwita Police Station premises while further enhancing the ability to act promptly and to resolve efficiently any serious crime or complaint reported from the Sabaragamuwa Province, was declared open on the evening of 19.07.2025 under the patronage of the Acting Inspector General of Police, Attorney-at-Law Mr Priyantha Weerasuriya. Along with the Inspector General of Police, senior officers including Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Sabaragamuwa Province, Mr Mahinda Gunaratne, Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Ratnapura Range, Mr Manjula Mahagirilla, and Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of the Ratnapura Division, Mr Kapila Premadasa, participated in this event.

IGP visits Ratnapura with gifts for school children of Sabaragamuwa Province

The program for giving away school supplies to the children of police officers in the Sabaragamuwa province was held on the evening of 19.07.2025 at the Main Auditorium of District Secretariat Ratnapura under the patronage of the Acting Inspector General of Police, Attorney-at-Law, Mr. Priyantha Weerasooriya. The Inspector General of Police symbolically distributed school supplies to 34 children and explained the future programs implemented for the welfare of the officers while appreciating the service of every police officer who is committed to maintaining order in the Island by serving throughout the 24 hours of the day.  Many officers of the province, including Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Sabaragamuwa Province, Mr. Mahinda Gunarathna, Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge Ratnapura Range, Mr. Manjula Mahagirilla, and Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of Ratnapura Division, Mr. Kapila Premadasa participated in this ceremony.

A Mobile App for Police Officers to view their PSA Account

Two suspects arrested with 21 motorcycles illegally imported into the country and cannabis plants that had been cultivated

A team of officers of the Central Crime Investigation Bureau having inspected the premises of the Nagarawewa Birds Park in the Hambantota Police Area on 12.07.2025, seized 21 motorcycles manufactured in foreign countries that are prohibited from being imported into the country and were hidden in the bird feed storage facility. The manager and the storekeeper of the animal farm were also arrested with 04 cannabis plants that had been illegally cultivated in the said park premises. The suspects are 40 and 50-year-old residents of Matara and Middeniya areas.

Bilateral meeting with the Maldivian Commissioner of Police

The Commissioner of Police of the Maldives, Mr Ismail Naveen visited the Police Headquarters on the 15.07.2025 and met the Acting Inspector General of Police, Attorney-at-Law, Mr. Priyantha Weerasooriya, and engaged in a special discussion to enhance cooperation in the police service between the two countries. Police Headquarters had taken steps to respectfully welcome the group including the Commissioner and at the end of the meeting, the IGP presented a commemorative plaque to the group including the Commissioner, commemorating the meeting.

Officers from the Colombo Traffic Headquarters to Ananda College

Officers of the Traffic Control and Road Safety Division, led by its Director Senior Superintendent of Police Manoj Ranagala, provided the necessary knowledge on traffic laws and how to travel safely on the road to the students of Ananda College, Colombo on 11.07.2025. The program, which consisted of a lecture delivered at the main lecture hall of Ananda College by the expert lecturers of the Traffic Control and Road Safety Division, OIC Ravin Sumanaratne, and OIC of the Driving School, Sub-Inspector Dayal Kariyawasam, and practical activities with demonstrations held outdoors, was successfully conducted for about 05 hours from morning to afternoon, and the Principal Lal Dissanayake had made necessary arrangements for about 3000 children and teachers of the college to participate in it. You have taken steps to explain in detail many important points for traffic wardens of our school who are on duty in front of Ananda College every morning, for students coming by motorcycle, for wearing safety helmets, for crossing the road and for using the pedestrian lane.  “Fair First Insurance”, a private company, has provided generous sponsorship for this program, and under this program, once again, officers from the Traffic Headquarters have presented valuable prizes to Ananda College students who provided correct answers to the questions posed by the traffic police officers during the lecture.

Ru Siri – The modern beauty salon at the Field Force Headquarters

The Salon at the Field Force Headquarters, which has been expanded and refurbished as a modern beauty salon under the leadership of the Police Seva Vanitha Unit, was declared open today, 15.07.2025, under the patronage of the Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr. Priyantha Weerasuriya (Attorney-at-Law) The salon, which was catered only to Police officers to get their hair cut at a reasonable fee, will now open daily for all beauty treatments at a fair rate for women police officers, members of police families and anyone who visits it. The necessary steps will be taken to expand and develop the Saloon under the guidance and supervision of the Chairperson of the Seva Vanitha Unit, and the beloved wife of the Acting I.G.P., Mrs. Nilmini Samaratunga, a member of the association, and the beloved wife of Mr. M.D.R.S. Daminda, D.I.G.  – Support Services, Mrs. Sandeepa Sewmini, and the Commanding Officer of the Police Field Force Headquarters, W. S. S. P. Mrs. Darshika Kumari and Senior Police Officers.  It is also remarkable that the opportunity has been given to the skilled persons of the family members of police officers to serve in the salon. Subsequently, the Acting I. G. P. aims to economically strengthen families of police officers by such granting opportunities. The equipment for this beauty salon was donated by Rev. Fr. Kalyanapriya of Believers Eastern Church, and other improvements have been done with financial donations from the Police Seva Vanitha Unit.

Meritorious deeds performed by Field Force Headquarters on the occasion of Esala Full Moon Poya Day.

A Dhamma sermon was held at the Police Field Force Headquarters on the morning of 10.07.2025 to mark the Esala Full Moon Poya Day. It had been organized under the auspices of the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Police Field Force Headquarters – Mr. Jagath Chandrakumara, Commandant of Field Force Headquarters, Woman Senior Superintendent of Police – Mrs. Darshika Kumari, and the officers of the Field Force Headquarters. At the end of the sermon, a Dansala (Charity Stall) had also been organized for the people travelling in front of the Police Field Force Headquarters.

Police Lifeguards save Four People

Four people who were having a swim at the Etthukala beach on 06. 07. 2025 were caught in a rip current. Inspector of Police, Anuradha, Police Constable 99177 Lakshan and Police Constable 105320 Wijesinghe who were performing duty attached to the Police Lifeguard Unit saved four persons. Subsequently, the officers provided them with basic first aid. It has been reported that these individuals who are at the age of 20, 21, 22 and 34 years, are residents of Veyangoda, Pudaluoya and Namunukula areas
