Opening of the Women and Children’s Bureau, Murunkan

With the objective of ensuring the safety and protection of women and children within the Murunkan Police Area, the newly established Women and Children’s Bureau at the Murunkan Police Station was declared open on 29th October 2025 under the patronage of the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Northern Province, Mr Thilak C. A. Dhanapala.

The necessary funding for this initiative was provided by the Government of Japan and the United Nations Population Fund, and the World Vision organization acts as the partner with the Government of Sri Lanka for this programme of establishing Women and Children’s Bureaus across the island.

These new facilities will increase the tendency towards making complaints to the police station by women and children in the area.
