02 kilograms of Ice Drug (Crystal Meth)

A group of officers from the Police Special Task Force camp – Gonahena conducted a raid in the Niripola of the Hanwella Police Area on 21 – 01 – 2025. A suspect was arrested during the raid for keeping possession of 02 kg of ice drug and he was handed over To Police Station Hanwella. An amount of Rupees One Hundred Thousand (Rs. 100,000) suspected to have been earned from drug trafficking was also found in the suspect’s possession, and the said amount was taken into police custody. The suspect arrested is at the age of 41 years and he is a resident of Niripola area in Hanwella, As per the facts uncovered from the ongoing investigation, the ice drug stock has been given for smuggling by an organized criminal who runs the drug network in Sri Lanka from a foreign country. Further investigation has been conducted by Police Station, Hanwella.

The suspect was a former police officer suspended from the service

A video showing a woman being forcibly abducted in a van by two individuals, one of whom was dressed as a police officer, is viral on social media. The person who was seen in the video as a police officer beside the person who abducted the woman was arrested by the police station, Wellawatte, and it was disclosed that the said person was a former police officer who had been suspended from the service. The abduction took place on 18.01.2025 near a hostel at a private hospital in the Wellawatte area, and the abductors had stolen about Rs. 31,500.00 of cash and other valuables and abandoned the woman in a place in the Welikada police area. The van used for the abduction was rented. Further investigations have been carried out by the police to arrest other suspects involved in the crime.

Two More Suspects Arrested In Relation To Wattegama Fish Businessman Murder Incident

The officers of Wattegama Police Station arrested two more suspects on 08.01.2025 in relation to the crime in which a fish businessman was killed that was reported from Atalahagoda area on 04.01.2025.   The suspects who committed the murder, a 25-year-old resident of Karandeniya area and a 37-year-old resident of Khuhettimulla area, were arrested on charges of conspiracy to commit murder and criminal intimidation. A 39-year-old fish businessman residing in Atalahagoda, Wattegama area, who was seriously injured in an attack by several people with a sharp weapon, died on 01.04.2025 at around 03.25 in the morning at the Kandy intensive care unit and Officers of Wattegama Police Station arrested a 38-year-old suspect in Wattegama area on 05.01.2025 on charges of murder and conspiracy and further investigations are being carried out in this regard.  Investigations are underway to arrest other suspects as well.

A Large-Scale Liquor Smuggling Operation on the Border of Kotugoda Dadugangoya has Been Raided

The officers of Bemmulla Police Station raided a large-scale illegal liquor trade on the border of the Dadugangoya River through the middle of Minuwangoda’s Katu Goda area and seized 31140 liters of Goda in 173 barrels on 07.01.2025.    At the time of the raid, no one was present at the place and two suspects residing in Jaela Ekala area, where the racket was being carried out, have been identified and police investigations are underway to arrest them.

We, who strive to save lives by preventing road accidents and water accidents

Police life guards in the Matale Division have taken action to conduct a one-day workshop on life-saving, first aid, and capacity building for 40 agricultural officers and development officers of the Agrarian Service Center, Dambulla, centering on the Life Guard Point in Ibbankatuwa Reservoir, Dambulla.  Retired S. I. Sunil, the then officer in charge of the Police Marine Division, stated that the workshop was successfully conducted all day long on 01.07.2025, under the permission and instructions given by the Director of the Police Marine Division and the Senior Superintendent of the Police -officer in charge of the Matale division. Police Constable 105232 Thilakasiri, who performs duties attached to the Thal Sevana Lifeguard Unit, Kankesanthurai, too participates in this workshop in order to assist lifeguards in the Matale Division, in spite of his leave to visit his family, and his act of supporting has been praised by the participants as well. Bus Owners Association Representatives To The Police Headquarters To Meet The Inspector General Of Police.

The representatives of several bus owners’ associations held a discussion with the Acting Inspector General of Police Attorney-at-Law, Mr. Priyantha Weerasooriya stating that the bus drivers and bus owners have been put to great inconvenience due to the special traffic operation initiated by the Sri Lanka Police under the Clean Sri Lanka National Project to ensure public safety on the road. This meeting was held at Police Headquarters in the morning on 08.01.2025. During this discussion Inspector General of Police emphasized that the discipline shown by the people of a country on the road is a measure of the state of the country, and that the number of accidents reported daily has dropped significantly due to these operations conducted under the existing laws and the Inspector General of Police explained to the bus association owners that the law will be enforced continuously to remove the illegal spare parts installed on the vehicles to reduce the loss of life in the event of a traffic accident. The Inspector General further stated that within the two week period given for removal of illegal spare parts, removal of spare parts in such a manner as to increase loss of life in the event of an accident should be done and three months could be given to remove other spare parts or to include those parts in the registration certificate of the vehicle. Further, the Inspector General of Police mentioned here that regardless of the objections of the bus owners and drivers, police officers dressed in civilian clothes will continue to identify cases of traffic violations while traveling in buses for the sake of protecting the lives of the public.

A meeting between the Inspector General of Police and officials from the Netherlands

Since it is highly important, the active involvement of police canines in eliminating crimes as well as drugs from Sri Lanka, the Police Kennel Division takes constant actions to acquire expertise on special trainings of canines. Recently, a few canines belonging to the breeds that can be trained for performing police kennel duties have been brought to Sri Lanka from the Netherlands, and in the meantime, police officers are being engaged in training those canines. Mr. Arnold Van Den Oeteaar and Mr. Kenneth Mathias, the dutch officials who came to Sri Lanka to provide the necessary support and expertise to the program, met  Mr. Priyantha Weerasuriya,(Attorney at Law) the acting Inspector General of Police, today at the Office of the Inspector General of Police and held a discussion with respect to the said program.
