Director and Media Spokesperson of the Police Media Division, Senior Superintendent of Police, Mr. Buddhika Manatunga, assumes duties at the Police Media Division.

Having appointed as the Director and Media Spokesperson of the Police Media Division on 2024.12.02, Senior Superintendent of Police, Mr. Buddhika Manatunga, (LLB) officially assumed duties in his post at the Police Media Division, located at 14th Floor, Suhurupaya, Battaramulla on the morning of 16th December 2024.  Being an alumnus of Ananda College, Colombo, he is a Bachelor of Science degree holder from the University of Peradeniya, a Postgraduate in Science, and a Bachelor of Law degree holder from the Open University. He joined the Sri Lanka Police service as an Assistant Superintendent of Police on 01.01.2014 and was promoted to the post of Superintendent of Police on 01.01.2020, and to the post of Senior Superintendent of Police on 01.01.2024. He has followed many training courses relevant to police service locally as well as in foreign countries such as, Russia, Thailand, the Philippines and Cambodia. The individual arrested for possession of drugsis a suspect in 4 unsolved crimes

A large number of valuables were stolen from 04 houses of the Mirihana and Kohuwala Police Divisions during the months of February, November, and December of this year. While the relevant police stations and the Criminal Investigation Division were conducting investigations to find the perpetrator, a team of officers from the Divisional Criminal Investigation Division Nugegoda arrested a person who was suspiciously staying near the Mee tree in Pragathipura, Kohuwala on 09.12.2024 along with 2200 milligrams of the narcotic, ice in his possession and he was further interrogated. Then it was revealed that he was the suspect wanted for the above 04 thefts and the suspect has revealed information about a television worth about Rs. 60,000, a Platinum motorcycle, property worth about Rs. 71,000, and property worth about Rs. 46,000. Based on the said piece of information, the investigating officers have found the television and the grinder and have taken them into police custody.  The suspect is a 34-year-old resident of the Kotte area.

Officers of Police Station Borella raid WanathamullaA, 20-year-old youth arrested for possession of 2 Kgs. of the narcotic, ice

A team of officers of the Police Station Borella conducted a raid in the Wanathamulla area today, 11.12.2024, acting on a tip-off, and arrested a 20-year-old youth in possession of 02 kilograms and 100 milligrams of the narcotic, ice. The Police Station Borella is conducting extensive investigations into the suspect, who is a resident of the Mulleriyawa area.

Centenary of the Police Savings Association

The Police Savings Association, which was formed 100 years ago to provide economic relief to the police officers, was established with the objective of improving the financial stability of police officers by saving money until their retirement. In the year 1924, the Superintendent of Police at the time, Mr. J. D. Aitkin, has formed the Police Savings Association to ensure legality in terms of financial matters. The Police Savings Association has been able to solve all the financial problems of police officers throughout the journey upon the celebration of its centenary. This anniversary celebration was held today, 12.12.2024, at the auditorium of the Police Savings Association with the participation of the Hon. Inspector General of Police – Mr. Priyantha Weerasooriya and a number of senior officials with the blessings of all religious leaders. A suspect was arrested with 19 barrels containing about 3,591,000 ml of Goda

On the morning of 07.12.2024, a group of police officers in Police Station Katunayake conducted a raid after receiving information about an illegal distillery operating in a forest area of Madu River in Katunayake Police Area. During the raid a person in possession of 19 barrels containing approximately 3,591,000 ml of Goda, a substance used for illicit alcohol production was arrested. The suspect is 61 years of age and a resident of Heenatiyana area.Further investigations have been carried out by the Police Station, Katunayake to arrest other suspects who were in link with this racket.
