The dead body found in a jeep parked in the Diyabete area was from a homicide, The two main suspects arrested along with the jewelry of the deceased

The burnt body of a 50-year-old businessman from the Millawa area of Kurunegala was found from a jeep parked in a forest in the Diyabete area of Maho on 26.06.2025. Since the Maho Police Station revealed that this was an act of homicide, several police teams initiated investigations in search of the suspects to arrest them on the instructions of the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the North Western Province. Accordingly, a team of officers including the Officer in Charge of the Mawathagama Police Station has succeeded in arresting two suspects from Doratiyawa and Maho who were in possession of cash worth over Rs. 1.4 million and gold jewelry that the businessman was wearing worth over Rs. 4.8 million. The two 19 and 27-year-old individuals taken into custody of the Maho Police Station, are residents of the Maho and Pilessa areas. Further police investigations are under way.

Assistant Superintendent of Police F. U. Wootler appointed as the New Police Media Spokesman

As per the approval and decision of the National Police Commission and under Section No. 258 II of Procedural Rules of the Public Service Commission, the Acting Inspector General of Police, Attorney-at-Law Priyantha Weerasuriya, has appointed Assistant Superintendent of Police F. U. Wootler, who was performing duties as the Deputy Director of the Police Media Division, to perform the duties in the posts of Police Media Spokesperson and Director of the Police Media Division. In accordance with the orders mentioned above, Senior Superintendent of Police K. B. Manathunga, who has served as the Police Media Spokesperson and Director of the Police Media Division since December 16, 2024, has been appointed as the Officer-in-Charge of the Polonnaruwa Division.

24 kilograms of Kerala cannabis seized

Based on a tip-off, officers of the Organized Crime Control Unit 1 of the Police Special Task Force arrested a resident of Chilaw on 25.06.2025 from the same area, while having 03 kilograms and 151 grams of Kerala cannabis in his possession. Based on a piece of information uncovered upon further investigation, the officers arrested a 49-year-old person, who was in possession of 21 kilograms and 470 grams of Kerala cannabis inside a car near a petrol station in Chilaw on the evening of 26.06.2025. The suspect is a resident of Vinayagapuram.

A person, who had been absconding having defrauded Rs. 50 million, has been arrested

Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau of Colombo Central has arrested a 37-year-old person, who is, a resident of Dehiwala, in the evening of 24 – 06 -2025, at the Kirulapone Police Division, for the offence of absconding, having defrauding over Rs. 50 million.  It has been revealed through the complaints made to the Police Station – Slave Island that the said suspect had defrauded around 150 people promising to provide them with foreign employment opportunities. He was arrested as a result of continuous search and pursuit for a period of 06 months.ෙ He is detained currently at Police Station – Slave Island for further investigations.

A person was arrested with 1 kilogram of hashish based on an intelligence tip-off.

Based on a tip-off from a police intelligence officer, officers from the Mahabage Police Station searched a house in the Elehiwatte area of the division and found 1 kilogram of hashish weighing 100 grams each. A 33-year-old man who was staying as a temporary resident of the house has been arrested and Rs. 304,400 /=, which is suspected to have been earned from drug trafficking, has been taken into police custody. The Mahabage Police Station has initiated further investigations into the suspect, who has been identified as a resident of the Ragama area in Welisara, and the house.

Police Special Task Force arrests a person in possession of illegal pesticides and a person with 391 liters of Goda.

Officers attached to the Police Special Task Force Gampola camp arrested a man, who was in possession of 67 packets of fungicides and 20 bottles of liquid pesticides that were banned for sale in Sri Lanka, near Gampola town and handed him over to the Gampola Agriculture Inspector’s Office for further investigation. The arrest was made on the afternoon of 23.06.2025 and the suspect was traced based on a piece of information discovered. He is a 31-year-old resident of the said area. Similarly, officers of the Police Special Task Force Dambulla camp carried out a raid in the Watagala area of the Galkiriyagama Police Area in the same evening and arrested a suspect with 391 liters and 750 milliliters of Goda, and 02 iron barrels used to distil illicit liquor and presented him to the Galkiriyagama Police Station. The 26-years-old suspect is a resident of the Pallekele area.

Police seized 4kg and 112g of ICE IN Pettah

Police seized 4kg and 112g of ICE IN Pettah. On 2025.06.16 Officer on a motorcycle patrol chased the car, stopped it at Reclamation Road, Pettah, and inspected the vehicle.At that time, the driver of the car had ran off from the vehicle and police had taken 4 kg and 112 g of ice stored in 4 plastic boxes inside the car in to custody.Police is conducting further investigations.

Brewery that supplied moonshine on a large scale to Etambahena, Moragahahena eliminated

Officers of the Moragahahena Police Station, having uncovered a large-scale illicit liquor racket in the Etambahena area of Moragahahena, raided the said place on the afternoon of 02.06.2025. 1855 liters and 500 milliliters (10 barrels) of goda used for brewing illicit liquor, 07 liters and 500 milliliters (10 bottles) of illicit liquor, and equipment used for brewing have been seized from the said place. A 31-year-old suspect who is a resident of the Gonapala area, has also been arrested. The Moragahahena Police Station is conducting further investigations to find the suspects who aided and abetted the racket.

Police Special Task Force arrested a man with prohibited weapons

Officers of the Kelaniya camp of the Police Special Task Force have arrested a 35-year-old individual in possession of prohibited weapons at the Thorana Junction, Peliyagoda area, on the evening of 01.06.2025. The suspect is a resident of the Wedamulla area, and the weapons seized by the police include 03 swords, 10 prohibited knives, a hatchet, 02 spears and a blunt weapon with a spring used for assault. The Peliyagoda Police Station is conducting further investigations into the suspect.
