A T-56 firearm, 04 magazines, and 113 bullets were found hidden in the kitchen of a house in Heenkenda, Ragama

On the morning of 01.04.2025, officers of the Wattala Police Station had received information that a woman had hanged herself in a lodge in Hendala, Wattala. Having arrived and inspected the scene, they had found a woman unconscious in a room. Upon examination of the woman, who regained consciousness shortly after, they found 06 grams and 100 milligrams of the narcotic ice in her possession. She was interrogated, and it was revealed that she had a close contact with a drug trafficker living abroad. During further interrogation, information was revealed about a T-56 firearm that the trafficker had given her about a year ago. The team of officers inspected a house in Heenkenda, Ragama, where her husband resides, and found a T-56 firearm, 04 magazines used for the said weapon, and 113 bullets hidden in the kitchen. Her 40-year-old husband has also been arrested. The arrested suspect is a 35-year-old resident of Colombo 15. Further investigations are being conducted by the Wattala Police Station regarding the female suspect and the male suspect.

A suspect arrested for posting AI- generated nude pictures of women

A suspect in connection with two similar incidents of creating and posting AI-generated fake nude pictures of two women was arrested on 29.03.2025 by the Auradhapura Sub Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department. The suspect was a 20-year-old resident in the Saliyapura, Anuradhapura area. He has been remanded until 10.04.2025 after being produced before the Magistrate’s Court, Anuradhapura.

Ja-Ela Othkele and Bhallakada marshes raided and 200 barrels of Goda (40500 liters) seized

Officers of the Western Province North Crime Division arrested a suspect with 40500 liters (200 barrels) of Goda used to brew illicit liquor and 843 liters of illicit liquor from Ja-Ela Othkele marshes on the morning of 29.03.2025. In another raid conducted in the Hallakkada marshes, two suspects were arrested with 5481 liters (29 barrels) of Goda, 225 liters of illicit liquor, 03 copper coils and 02 gas stoves. The suspects are 30, 32, and 50 year old residents of Ekala and Dolosbage areas.

35 grams of heroin, 115 grams of ice drug arrested

Officers of the Nikaweratiya Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau conducted a raid in the Katagamuwa Road area of Nikaweratiya on the evening of 30.03.2025 and arrested a suspect who was in possession of 65 grams of ice drug (Crystal meth) and 35 grams of heroin along with 02 mobile phones and Rs. 114000/= suspected to have been earned from drug trafficking. The suspect, aged 39, a resident of Nikaweratiya, Elawaka area, has been handed over to the Nikaweratiya Police Station for further investigations. Similarly, officers of the Anuradhapura Police Station conducted a raid in the Shravasthipura area of Anuradhapura on the evening of 30.03.2025 and arrested a suspect who was in possession of 55 grams of ice drug. The suspect is a 33-year-old resident of Meegahatenna area. The Anuradhapura Police Station is conducting further investigations regarding the suspect.

The police seized a large-scale illicit liquor production from a rented house in Malambe

As per a piece of information disclosed regarding illicit liquor production in a house located in the Udawatta area of Malambe, the officers of Police Station Malambe raided and inspected the said house in the evening of 30.03.2025. 112 litres and 500 litres of illicit liquor, along with 1400 litres of Goda, used for the production of illicit liquor, were found stored there, and three people were arrested. By preliminary investigations it was revealed that this house was rented on a monthly basis for about Rs. 40,000 and was used as a distillery.  The three suspects are 53, 34 and 45 years old and are residents of the Rajagiriya area.

Seven suspects, including the person who video recorded the incident, have been arrested in connection with the incident of obstructing police duty by assaulting two police officers

An incident was reported regarding a group of people that assaulted and obstructed the duty of two officers of the Nilaveli Police Station who were taking action with regard to a traffic offence on the road in front of the Sithivinayagar Kovil, Nilaveli on the afternoon of 31.03.2025. The Nilaveli Police Station has so far arrested 07 suspects in connection with the investigation carried out to arrest suspects, and among those, there were a woman and the person who video recorded the incident. The three-wheeler they arrived in and the motorcycle with which the traffic violation was committed have also been taken into custody by the Nilaveli Police Station. Having produced the arrested suspects before the court on 02.04.2025, i. e. today, further investigation is underway by the Nilaveli Police Station to arrest the other suspects involved in the incident.  The Sri Lanka Police intends to take drastic action in accordance with existing legal provisions against individuals who behave in an unlawful manner while obstructing the duties of police officers.

Four individuals, including a woman, arrested for aiding and abetting the Gandara shooting incident

A female suspect and three male suspects were arrested by the Gandara Police Station on 22.03.2025 in connection with the crime of shooting and killing two people, who were riding a motorcycle near the junction that leads towards Sinhasana Road in the Gandara Police Area on the night of 21.03.2025, by an unknown group of people who arrived in a van. It has been revealed through the ongoing investigations conducted by the Gandara Police Station that these three suspects and the female suspect, aged between 23 and 46, residing at Gandara and Devinuwara, had aided and abetted the double homicide. Several investigation teams have been deployed to make the prompt arrest of the main suspects, including the shooters who are absconding.

A person who assisted by phone in the shooting on Nagalagam Street was arrested

Two injured persons were hospitalised after getting shot at by two persons who arrived on a motorcycle in front of a motorcycle spare parts shop on the Nagalagam Street of the Grandpass Police Area, around 09.40 p.m. on 17.03.2025. On 23.03.2025, the officers of the Grandpass Police Station, who are investigating the crime, have arrested a person, along with two mobile phones, who had contacted the two injured persons by phone and called them to the place where the crime was committed. The suspect is a 31-year-old resident of the Grandpass area. Three suspects and a female suspect have so far been arrested for aiding and abetting this crime by the investigation officers. The Grandpass Police Station is conducting further investigations in this regard.

Six individuals involved in hunting animals in the Yahalatenna area were arrested

Villagers of the Yahalatenna area, Peradeniya, have captured six people who had come to the area for hunting animals in the dawn of 09.03.2025 and handed them over to the Peradeniya Police Station.  According to the information provided by the villagers, officers of the Peradeniya Police Station, who were on night patrol, went to the relevant place and took the six suspects into their custody, and while searching, they found 03 No. of 12 bore cartridges, 03 blank cartridges, an axe, a hand axe, 02 dragon lights, and a knife in their possession.  It was also witnessed that they had brought a carcass of a wild boar with them, and through questioning, a 12 bore firearm that was kept in a forest area by the side of the road in the Yahalatenna area was found at the same time.  Since these suspects are residents of the Mawathagama area who are aged between 28 and 71 years, steps have been taken to inform the Mawathagama Police Station. Accordingly, officers of the Mawathagama Police Station searched a house in the Kotikapala area of Mawathagama, where one of the above suspects resides, and found items including 04 No. of 12 bore firearms, ammunition of tem, a revolver, 03 hand axes, a set of clothes similar to military uniforms, a wig, 02 pairs of handcuffs, and an air pistol in the said house.  The Peradeniya and Mawathagama Police Stations carry out further investigations regarding these suspects.

Property acquired through illegal practices has been forfeited

The Illegal Assets Investigation Division has taken actions to forfeit the property belonging to two suspects who were arrested in the Ekala, Ja-Ela on 11.03.2025 for the offences of smuggling illegal liquor and heroin. Such measures have been taken under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Consequently, freezing injunction has been obtained on a motor van and a motor car worth Rs. 23,500,000/-(Twenty Three Million and Five Hundred Thousand), a three-wheeler worth Rs. 1,200,000/-(One Million and Two Hundred Thousand) and a plot of land containing in the extent of 38 perches worth of Rs. 1,900,000 /- (One Million and Nine Hundred Thousand). The two suspects are at the age of 39 and 63, and are residents of Ekala, Ja-Ela. Further investigations on the suspects are conducted by the Illegal Assets Investigation Division.
