02 kilograms of Ice Drug (Crystal Meth)

A group of officers from the Police Special Task Force camp – Gonahena conducted a raid in the Niripola of the Hanwella Police Area on 21 – 01 – 2025. A suspect was arrested during the raid for keeping possession of 02 kg of ice drug and he was handed over To Police Station Hanwella. An amount of Rupees One Hundred Thousand (Rs. 100,000) suspected to have been earned from drug trafficking was also found in the suspect’s possession, and the said amount was taken into police custody. The suspect arrested is at the age of 41 years and he is a resident of Niripola area in Hanwella, As per the facts uncovered from the ongoing investigation, the ice drug stock has been given for smuggling by an organized criminal who runs the drug network in Sri Lanka from a foreign country. Further investigation has been conducted by Police Station, Hanwella.

The suspect was a former police officer suspended from the service

A video showing a woman being forcibly abducted in a van by two individuals, one of whom was dressed as a police officer, is viral on social media. The person who was seen in the video as a police officer beside the person who abducted the woman was arrested by the police station, Wellawatte, and it was disclosed that the said person was a former police officer who had been suspended from the service. The abduction took place on 18.01.2025 near a hostel at a private hospital in the Wellawatte area, and the abductors had stolen about Rs. 31,500.00 of cash and other valuables and abandoned the woman in a place in the Welikada police area. The van used for the abduction was rented. Further investigations have been carried out by the police to arrest other suspects involved in the crime.

108 kg 460 grams of Kerala Ganja taken into police custody in Pallikuda area

Officers of the Jaffna Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau arrested four suspects in possession of 108 kg 460 grams of Kerala Ganja in Pallikuda area of the Jaffna Police Division at noon on 20.01.2025.The four suspects have been identified as residents of Pooneryn, Mannar, Jaffna, and Mallavi areas and are between the ages of 35 and 41.Based on a piece of information uncovered, two persons who arrived by a boat to the Mandativu coast were waylaid and arrested at around 09.10 am on 20.01.2025 and having extracted information concerning a house in the Pallikuda area, this stash of cannabis was seized after raiding the said house.The Jaffna Police are scheduled to produce the suspects before the Magistrate’s Court Jaffna and further investigations are underway.

A male, female suspect and 06 kilograms and 630 grams of Kush drug arrested

A 31-year-old female resident of Borapola and a 29-year-old male resident of Katuwana, who flew from Bangkok, Singapore to Sri Lanka carrying 06 kilograms and 630 grams of Kush drug, were arrested at the airport arrivals terminal on the night of 20.01.2025 by officers of the Airport Unit of the Police Narcotics Bureau.The Police Narcotics Bureau has produced the male and female suspects before the court, and they are being interrogated for further investigation.

The main suspect and the one who aided and abetted to the double homicide in Mannar have been arrested

One of the main suspects who aided and abetted in the shooting incident that resulted in murdering a woman and a man on 16-01-2025 near Magistrate Court, Mannar, was arrested on 18-01-2025 in Pesale area.The suspect, who was arrested by a team of Police officers from Police Station – Pesale, is a 38-year-old retired Army Sergeant residing in Kaikawala of Matale. He was temporarily residing in Kelaniya.It has been disclosed through the interrogation and further investigation that this suspect was the wanted person in connection with the double homicide committed by shooting on 24-08-2023 at Mollikandal in Adampan Police Area.A team of Police officers from Madu Police Station arrested the main suspect in Kelaniya area on 18-01-2025, in connection with Mannar shooting incident.The suspect who is at the age of 34 years is a resident of Amandoluwa, Seeduwa area and he is employed as a Medical Assistant at Army Hospital – Narahenpita.Two other suspects in connection with this crime have been arrested on the same day at Seeduwa area and near the municipal roundabout in Mannar, by the officers of Police Station Mannar. They will be detained for 48 hours for interrogation.Mannar Police Station conducts continuous investigation to arrest all the suspects involved in the crime.

An attempt to transport Kerala Ganja was thwarted and arrested 05 kg of Kerala Ganja along with two suspects by the Organized Crime Prevention Unit of Police Special Tasks Force

Two individuals who were traveling by a three-wheeler in possession of two parcels containing Kerala Ganja have been arrested during a raid carried out on 19.01.2025 afternoon in the Wellampitiya Police area by the officers of the Organized Crime Prevention Unit of the Police Special Tasks Force and produced to the Police Station Wellampitiya.During the weighing, it was disclosed that the amount of Kerala Ganja arrested was 05 kg and 45 mg weight, and the two suspects, who are 31 and 33 years old, were identified as residents of the Wellampitiya area.Further investigations are being carried out by the Wellampitiya Police Station in this regard.

The shooter was arrested while fleeing with the firearm

This morning, 19-01-2025, a 24-year-old person was shot to death by two motorcyclists at Siripala Mawatha, Mount Lavinia. Shortly after the shooting, the shooter out of the two suspects along with the 9mm firearm that has been used for the shooting was arrested by the police officers who were on duty in Kaudawa area of Dehiwala. During the attempt to inspect the motorcycle, the motorcyclist drove the motorbike continuously. The Police chased the motor bike and managed to stop it, and then the suspect attempted to shoot towards the officer .The suspect was subdued and arrested by the suspect. Facts have been revealed that he, who is 47-year-old, has been identified as a wanted suspect in a connection with a previously reported murder, and extensive investigations are being conducted to arrest the motorcycle and the motorcyclists.

Concurrent with the island-wide crime and drug prevention program of the Sri Lanka Police, which is being functioned as per the instructions of the Acting Inspector General of Police, a suspect with a pistol was arrested by the Wellampitiya Police Station on 11.01.2025, and further investigations were conducted having detained him under a detention order. Based on the information uncovered during the said investigation, another suspect, in possession of a T-56 firearm, a magazine and 18 live bullets, was arrested from Welikanda area on 14.01.2025 by a team of officers of the Organised Crime Investigation Unit of the Colombo Crime Division. Further investigations regarding the above suspect are being conducted by the Colombo Crime Division, having obtained a 90-day detention order, and based on the information extracted from him, it was revealed that another T-56 firearm had been sold for Rs. 200,000. Based on the information uncovered, a team of officers of the Organized Crime Investigation Unit of the Colombo Crime Division went to the Welioya area today, 18.01.2025, and arrested a suspect with a T-56 firearm, a magazine and 11 live bullets. The arrested suspect is a 47-year-old resident of the Kalingawila area in Welikanda, who runs a shop. The Colombo Crime Division is conducting further investigations into whether this firearm has been used for other crimes.

Two suspects arrested with heroin and 02 firearms

On the instructions of the Acting Inspector General of Police, a raid was conducted by the officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau’s Matara Sub-Unit in the Pokunuhena area of the Matara Police area in the early hours of today, 17.01.2025, in relation to the crime and drug prevention operation being carried out by the Sri Lanka Police throughout the island. Officers of the Matara sub-unit of the Police Narcotics Bureau conducted this raid and arrested a suspect with 08 grams of 900 milligrams of heroin, a 12-bore firearm made in Sri Lanka and 02 rounds of ammunition. The arrested suspect is a 37-year-old resident of Pokunuhena area. During the questioning of this suspect, based on the revealed information, a house in Wevahamanduwa area was checked and another suspect was arrested along with a T56 firearm, two rounds of ammunition and 60 rounds of ammunition hidden in that house. The suspect who was arrested is a 24-year-old resident of Vevahamanduwa area. During his interrogation, it has been revealed that this T56 firearm was given to him by the above first suspect to hide it. The two suspects have been handed over to the Matara Police Station along with the arrested items. Further Investigations are being carried out by Matara Police and Police Narcotics Bureau.

A suspect arrested for possession of “ice” and an amount of two hundred and eighty three million and three hundred thousand rupees

A suspect who was traveling by a cab possessing 18 gram of “Ice” was arrested during the raid conducted in the Kiriwaula-Thorayaya area of the Dambulla-Kurunegala road by the police officers of the Kandy Sub-Unit of the Police Narcotics Bureau on 16.01.2025 in relation to the anti-drug crime operations implemented islandwide by the Sri Lanka Police upon the instructions given by the acting Inspector General of Police. The suspect arrested is 39 years of age and a resident of Hangamuwa in Bogamuwa Police area. An amount of money with the value of twenty-three million five hundred thousand rupees (Rs. 23,500,000/-), which was suspected to be earned by trafficking heroin, and about 70 pieces of different colored stones suspected to be gemstones were found in a bag under the driver’s seat of the cab in which the suspect was traveling. Further, based on the information disclosed during the interrogation of the suspect, an amount of two hundred fifty-nine million eight hundred thousand rupees (Rs. 259,800,000/-) suspected to be earned by heroin trafficking was found in a safe in the house located in the Hangamuwa area where the suspect resides, and a van belonging to the suspect that was parked in the said house was taken into custody by the police. It has been disclosed in the investigation that this suspect is involved in drug trafficking, which was masterminded by a close relation of the suspect who is an organized criminal and also a drug trafficker currently hiding in Dubai. The said amount more than of two hundred eighty million rupees seized by the police during the said raid is to be the highest amount of money recovered during a raid. The Police Narcotics Bureau is conducting further investigations in this regard..
