Opening of newly constructed Administrative building and Gym for Uva Province Police Officers

A series of awareness programs for police officers has been carried out island-wide by the Hon. Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Ananda Wijepala, and the Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr. Priyantha Weerasuriya. Accordingly, the awareness program to address the police officers in Uva Province was held on 2025.08.09 at the Auditorium of the Divisional Secretariat, Mahiyanganaya. During this programme, 400 police officers attached to 48 Police stations in Uva Province have been addressed. This program addressed the challenges that officers face while performing their duties. Additionally, the personal issues of officers were also presented to the Hon. Minister and the Acting Inspector General of Police, who proposed positive solutions and suggestions for such problems as well. Following this program, the new administrative building of the Divulapelessa Police Station, which was constructed at a cost of Rs. 18 million, was declared open by the Hon. Minister. The Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Ravi Senevirathna; Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police of the Uva Province, Mr. Mahesh Senarathna; Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Badulla Range, Mr. Laksiri Wijesena; Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Monaragala Range, Mr. Nihal Thalduwa; officers in charge of the Badulla, Bandarawela, and Monaragala Divisions; and many high-ranking police officers participated in these events. The newly built gymnasium, which is well equipped with the latest gym equipment and located within the premises of Badulla Police Station, was declared open by the Acting Inspector General of Police, and this facility is intended for police officers in Uva province to help maintain their physical and mental health. This gymnasium is functioning under a well-qualified gym instructor. Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police of the Uva Province, Mr. Mahesh Senarathna, and many high-ranking police officers participated in this event.

Opening of Uva Provincial Crime Division

Uva Provincial Crime Division, established at the location of Old Police Station, Mahiyanganaya Road, Badulla was declared open by the Acting Inspector General of Police, Attorney-at-Law, Priyantha Weerasooriya, on the evening of 09.08.2025. This unit was opened to investigate crimes specifically related to the Uva Province and this Division functions under the direct supervision of the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police of the Uva Province. Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police of the Uva Province, Mahesh Senarathna, Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Badulla Range, Laksiri Wijesena, Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Monaragala Range, Nihal Thalduwa, officers in charge of the Badulla, Bandarawela and Monaragala Divisions, and many high-ranking police officers participated in this event.

Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism.

A bilateral Memorandum of Understanding between the Sri Lanka Police and the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka has been signed, intending to exchange information in relation to the investigations carried out on combating money laundering and financing of terrorism, at the Police Headquarters this morning, 07.08.2025. The Memorandum of Understanding was officially signed by Mr. Chinthaka Mendis, the Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka, and Mr. Priyantha Weerasuriya, the Acting Inspector General of Police.

Brewery that supplied moonshine on a large scale to Etambahena, Moragahahena eliminated

Officers of the Moragahahena Police Station, having uncovered a large-scale illicit liquor racket in the Etambahena area of Moragahahena, raided the said place on the afternoon of 02.06.2025. 1855 liters and 500 milliliters (10 barrels) of goda used for brewing illicit liquor, 07 liters and 500 milliliters (10 bottles) of illicit liquor, and equipment used for brewing have been seized from the said place. A 31-year-old suspect who is a resident of the Gonapala area, has also been arrested. The Moragahahena Police Station is conducting further investigations to find the suspects who aided and abetted the racket.
