Christmas to the children of the area from Maligawatta Police Station

The properly constructed swimming pool of the Aralaganwila Police College is declared open

The swimming pool of the Aralaganwila Police College, which was renovated in an attractive manner, was declared open on the morning of 06.12.2024 under the leadership of the Director of the Police College Division, Senior Superintendent of Police, Mr. J. A. Chandrasena, with the participation of Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mr. Ruchira Karunanayaka.Since it is mandatory for a recruit police officer to appear for and pass a swimming test to get confirmed in the service in Sri Lanka Police, the availability of such swimming pools provides great opportunity for those who are unable to swim when joining the police service, so that they can acquire the skill during the basic training period.The Officer in Charge and staff of the College, under the leadership of Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. K. D. Chandrapala, Deputy Director of the Aralaganwila Police College, offered their labour with great dedication to renovate this swimming pool, which was essential element for the college, at a minimum cost while maintaining its quality. The New Unit of the Bureau for the Prevention of Abuse of Children and Women is declared open at Police Station- Pesalai.

The renovated unit of the Bureau for the Prevention of Abuse of Children and Women has been formally established in a separate section within the Police Station- Pesalai in Mannar Island. The unit was declared open by Mr. Thilak Abeywickrama Dhanapala, the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Northern Province on 26.11.2024, followed by a brief ceremony.The objective of setting up the Bureau in a new place to create a suitable environment for the children and women in the area to lodge complaints regarding the crimes they experience or problems they encounter, whilst preserving their privacy.Action are being taken to establish Children and Women Bureaus, to extend a service in such a formal and friendly manner, in every police station as per the instructions and orders of the acting Inspector General of Police (Attorney at Law), Mr. Priyantha Weerasooriya, and that will provide opportunity for children as well as women to get justice served more conveniently. As per the orders given by the Inspector General of Police, a Unit of the Bureau for Children and Women, dedicated to serve children and women, should be formally established and maintained in every police station. The new Unit of the Bureau for children and Women of Mannar Headquarters Station, which was thus renovated, was declared open today, 26.11.2024, under the leadership of the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Northern Province, Mr. Thilak Abeywickrama Dhanapala.Female police officers proficient in both Sinhala and Tamil languages have been attached to this Unit.The ability to explain women and children’s problems preserving their privacy and arranging the office environment in a mentally relaxing manner are among the main objectives of this project. An awareness program to educate children to prevent themselves from becoming victims.

Sri Lanka Police has carried out a number of awareness programs in schools islandwide to make the students aware on the grounds that the number of reported crimes in relation to children has increased.The community policing division, together with “Peace,” a nongovernmental organization, successfully conducted a program as such on 20.11.2024 morning in front of Colombo Fort Railway Station for 150 students of selected schools in Colombo Central Division.The officers who organized the program have taken action to educate the children through dramatic presentations on how a criminal with an intention of committing a crime attempts to manipulate a child, how a child should escape from such a situation, and to whom they should inform.Apart from the school children, the people gathered around were also seen participating in this program with great enthusiasm. “The Missed Lesson” An exciting programme in line with Worlds Children’s Day

When the entire world is celebrating International Children’s Day and Elders’ Day today, 01.10.2024, on the theme of “Extend Hands of Compassion—Let’s Protect Elders and the Children”, a series of speeches and performances organized by the Bureau for the Prevention of Abuse of Children and Women in association with the Ministry of Education under the Children’s Day theme of “Protect and treat every child equally” were held at the Nagananda Buddhist University premises in Manelwatta this morning (01.10.2024).Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, the Prime Minister- Minister of Education, grace the event as the chief guest.About 1000 students from 10 schools of Kelaniya Education Division participated in this program, and apart from insightful speeches, the Police Cultural Division, Police Band Division, and Police Kennel Division joined the program by letting the students enjoy their performances. Along with the Prime Minister, senior officers, including Mrs. Thilaka Jayasundara, Secretary, Ministry of Education; Deputy Inspector General of Police Mr. Kapila Kadupitiya, in charge of Western Province (North) Division; Deputy Inspector General of Police Mrs. Renuka Jayasundara, in charge of the range for the prevention of abuse of children and women; and Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Lalith Abeysekara, Director, Children and Women Bureau, also participated in this occasion. Let’s build a city free from accidents.

A program to prevent and minimize road accidents, under the theme of ‘A Disciplined City,’ organized on a concept of the Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of Galle Division with the collaboration of the officers in Community Policing Committees established in all the Police Stations of Galle Division, was held today, 01.11. 2024 on the road near Galle Fort.The students representing 7 schools participated in this program organized by the Sri Lanka Police under the sponsorship of FAIRFIRST, and the program is scheduled to be held for 10 days from today onwards for the school children in the areas that were identified as accident-prone areas in Galle.The keynote speaker, Sub Inspector of Police, Mr. Dayal Kariyawasam, and the demonstration team of Traffic Headquarters made the students aware through performing dramas and other various activities on how road accidents occur and how to protect themselves from road accidents.Further, this program is aimed at advising the students on how to carry out school traffic control activities, to prevent road accidents, which are increasing day by day, and to lead their lives while being cautious and mindful. To create a virtuous and effective leader

With the main objective of eradicating narcotics from schools, a three-day Leadership Training Workshop for 88 school prefects was held at Topawewa National College, Polonnaruwa, from 28.10.2024. On 30.10.2024 under the guidance of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr. Sajeewa Medawatta and under the leadership of Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Police Cadet Range – Mr. S. M. Y Senevirathne and Senior Superintendent of Police, Mr. Chinthaka Gunarathna – Director of Police Cadet Division.This workshop consisted of various lectures by police cadet instructors. The program consisted of various lectures and activities on leadership training, physical exercises, lectures on prevention of narcotics, knowledge on giving first aid, table manners and road rules. For the entertainment of the students, a musical performance was held and a bonfire marked the end of this program.To carry out this program successfully, it received the cooperation of the Deputy Principal of Topawewa National College, Polonnaruwa, its teachers, Officer in Charge of Boralanda Police Cadet Training Center and many other officers.
