Introducing a new WhatsApp number for the Public & Police officers who requires attention of IGP – 071 8598888

The Sri Lanka Police is constantly performing its duties with dedication to ensure the safety of the public. Thereby, it has been observed that there is a need to protect the rights of the public by giving priority to their needs and to inform the office of the Inspector General of Police directly about crimes and various other issues that the public encounters.

The IGP Attorney at Law Mr. Priyantha Weerasooriya introduced this new WhatsApp phone number, 071-8598888, effective from 13.08.2025, for the public and police officers who requires attention of IGP.  This facility could be used to report any information related to crimes and other issues they may encounter.

The public is informed that they may only use this new WhatsApp phone number to send text messages, videos, and photos directly to the IGP, but making phone calls to the respective number is not permitted.
