Attorney-at-Law, Mr. Priyantha Weerasuriya assumed duties as the 37th Inspector General of Police of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka this morning, 14.08.2025.
The IGP, amidst a salute from the police and police Special Task Force officers, arrived at Colombo 02 after arriving at the Police Headquarters, engaging in religious rituals and receiving the blessings of the Maha Sangha and priests of all religions, he commenced his duties at an auspicious time and addressed all parties present for this short ceremony and expressed his views.
The IGP, who had overcome various challenges and milestones in his police career with determination and dedication, reflected on the journey he had taken so far, step by step. The IGP stated that he is committed to further implementing the crime prevention process and the police service in a stronger, more planned manner.
He stated that the necessary steps will be taken to effect a massive transformation to make the Sri Lanka Police a more prestigious and proud service among the public than before.
