The gunman arrested over the shooting reported in the Hanwella area on 13. 08. 2025

The unidentified gunman who opened fire, injuring a person in the Pahathgama area in Hanwella on 13.08.2025, was arrested by the officers of the Western Province South Crime Division in the afternoon of 08.09.2025, in the Thunnaya area of the Hanwella Police area.

The suspect is a 42-year-old resident of the Meegoda area. At the time of his arrest, he was in possession of a 12-bore firearm with 03 rounds of ammunition, which was taken into custody by the officers.

It was previously disclosed that the gunman used a pistol during the shooting in the Pahathgama area. The Western Province-South Crime Division is continuing its investigation into the suspect and the respective weapon involved.
