Devotees who visit Anuradhapura from all over the island have tendency to visit the Tissa wewa and bathe in it. Despite all awareness programmes conducted, a considerable amount of garbage has accumulated around the lake due to the deliberate or unintended disposal of garbage in the lake premises.
A Shramadan campaigns was held on 20 – 09 -2025 under the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ national programme to remove the garbage accumulated effectively from the lake premises under the leadership of Senior Superintendent of Police, Mr. Thilina Hewa Pathirana, Director of the Anuradhapura Police Division,.
All the organizing activities were done by the officers of the Lifeguard Unit of Anuradhapura Division, and school children who are undergoing training under the Lifeguard Unit and mobile vendors around the Tissa Wewa were willingly extended their support for the event.
Under the generous contribution made by the Aukana Lions Club, measures have been taken to install notice boards near the lake.
