Court grants permission to detain and question foreign national arrested forManufacturing of Narcotic Drugs

Officers at the Weligama Police Station arrested a foreign national who was staying at a shelter in the Welihinda area in the early hours of 21.09.2025 in possession of 409 grams of the narcotic drug Ice and 10 utensils suspected to be chemicals used to manufacture the narcotic drug. 

Chemicals and equipment such as colorless liquids, whitish pieces, weighing scales, and thermometers were among the items seized.

The suspect, an 18-year-old Moldovan national, was produced before the Matara Magistrate’s Court on 21.09.2025 and was detained at the Weligama Police Station and granted permission for further investigation.

Further legal action is scheduled to be taken based on the reports from the Government Analyst’s Office.
