Commendable Act of Honesty: Two Police Officers Return Foreign Tourist’s Lost Wallet Containing Rs. 600,000

On October 23, 2025, Woman Inspector of Police  Ms. Yamuna Dhammika Kumari Edirisinghe and Female Woman Police Constable Ms. Samanmali 12093, attached to the Prime Minister’s Security Division, demonstrated exemplary honesty by returning a lost wallet to its rightful owner, a British national, Ms. Sabrina Cameron.

The wallet was found on Thimbirigasyaya Road in Narahenpita, and upon its discovery, the officers promptly reported the matter to the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Prime Minister’s Security Division. The OIC immediately informed the Director of the Division, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mr. Sumithra de Silva, who in turn coordinated with the Western North Crime Division. Based on the information contained in the wallet, the residence of Ms. Cameron was successfully identified.

Subsequently, Ms. Sabrina Cameron visited the Prime Minister’s Security Division office, where the wallet was officially handed over to her by WIP Edirisinghe, under the supervision of the Division Director.

At the time of recovery, the wallet contained Rs. 6,000 in cash, foreign currencies in US dollars and British pounds, bringing the total value to nearly Rs. 600,000. It also contained several local and international credit cards, a driver’s license, an identity card, and other essential documents.

Expressing her appreciation, Ms. Cameron commended the integrity and professionalism of the Sri Lankan police officers and conveyed her heartfelt gratitude for their honesty and sense of duty.
