Suspect Arrested with Illegal Pistol and Live Ammunition

A team of officers from the Special Task Force (STF) Akmeemana Camp arrested a suspect in possession of an illegal firearm and live ammunition during a operation carried out on the evening of 24.01.2026.

Acting on reliable intelligence information, STF officers conducted a search at a residence in the Wathugedara area within the Ambalangoda Police Division. During the search, officers recovered a micro-type pistol along with live ammunition that had been carefully concealed inside a room of the house.

The arrested suspect is a 33-year-old resident of the Wathugedara area. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspect had intended to sell the firearm to another party.

The suspect and the recovered items have been handed over to the Ambalangoda Police for further inquiry. Ongoing investigations are being conducted by the Ambalangoda Police.
