Polpitiya Police Station Modernized and Opened as a Fully Equipped Facility for Public Service

The newly constructed Polpitiya Police Station, established to serve the residents of Polpitiya village in the Hatton Police Division, was officially declared open to the public on 06.02.2026 under the patronage of the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Ananda Wijayapala. The event was graced by the presence of the Inspector General of Police, Attorney-at-Law, Mr. Priyantha Weerasooriya.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Nuwara Eliya District Development Committee, Mr. Manjula Surawirarachchi; Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Nuwara Eliya District, Mr. Priyantha Chandrasiri; Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of the Hatton Division, Mr. Pradeep Weerasekara; all Officers-in-Charge of the Hatton Police Division; and several government officials. The Officer-in-Charge of Polpitiya Police Station, Inspector Mr. P.H.M.N. Upul Kumara, warmly welcomed the distinguished guests and attendees.

Addressing the gathering, the Inspector General of Police expressed his sincere satisfaction at the establishment of a permanent, modern police station equipped with all essential facilities, and at its dedication to the service of the public. The Ministry of Public Security extended its appreciation to all key stakeholders who contributed to the successful construction of the police station, which commenced in November 2025, following the acquisition of 78.43 perches of land belonging to the Ceylon Electricity Board.

Previously, Polpitiya Police Station functioned from a small rented house since 2021, providing police services to more than 9,000 residents across seven Grama Niladhari Divisions in the area. With the completion of this purpose-built facility on land allocated exclusively for police use and equipped with modern amenities, the Polpitiya Police Station is now better positioned to deliver a more efficient and effective public service.
