Sri Lanka Police Holds Special Celebration to Mark International Women’s Day

A special celebration, including a medical clinic, musical entertainment program, and volleyball tournament organized by the Sri Lanka Police in conjunction with International Women’s Day, was held successfully on 07.03.2026 at the Police Field Force Headquarters.

The Chief Guests at the event were Hon. Saroja Savitri Paulraj, Minister of Women and Child Affairs, and Vraie Kelly Balthazaar, Mayor of Colombo. The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Priyantha Weerasuriya, the Chairperson of the Police Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Neeta Samaratunga, along with several senior police officers and distinguished invitees, also attended the occasion.

The program commenced with a special parade highlighting the pride and professionalism of policewomen, which was held near the University of Colombo. This was followed by a medical clinic and a volleyball tournament conducted at the Police Field Force Headquarters playground.

The volleyball tournament was held with great enthusiasm and participation from the competing teams. The championship title was won by the Police Field Force Headquarters team, while the runner-up position was secured by the Chilaw Division team.

Certificates and valuable prizes were awarded to the winning teams in recognition of their outstanding performance. The Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Western Province, Mr. Sajeewa Medawatte, along with several other senior officers, also took part in the event.

The celebration was further enhanced by vibrant dance performances and an entertaining musical program, presented by the Police Cultural Division and the Police Western Band.
