Traffic Management Plan for the Official Visit of the President of the Maldives

The Honorable President of the Republic of Maldives, Mohamed Muizzu, is scheduled to undertake an official visit to Sri Lanka from 03.05.2026 to 06.05.2026.

In view of this visit, the Sri Lanka Police has arranged a special traffic management plan within the Colombo city limits to ensure security and smooth vehicular movement. Temporary traffic restrictions and diversions will be implemented along routes used by the VIP convoy.

03.05.2026 – Arrival and Transfer to Colombo.

Upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, the VIP will proceed to Colombo via:

Katunayake–Colombo Expressway → Grandpass/Orugodawatte Junction → Baseline Road → Borella → D.S. Senanayake Junction → Horton Place → Nelum Pokuna Roundabout → Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha → Liberty Junction → Mal Road → Liberty Roundabout → St. Michael’s Road → Galle Road → Galle Face Roundabout → Galle Middle Road → Baladaksha Mawatha → N.S.A. Roundabout → Lotus Road → Ceramic Junction → York Street.

Alternative Routes:

Vehicles entering Colombo via Kandy Road may use: Kelani Bridge → Grandpass → Ingurukade → Panchikawatte → Maradana → Borella → Kota Road.

Vehicles entering via Galle Road / High Level Road / Baseline Road: Divert through Borella Cemetery → Castle Street → Ayurveda Junction → Kolonnawa → Wellampitiya → Kelaniya.

Vehicles travelling from Fort/Pettah towards Negombo, Kandy or Avissawella: Use Olcott Mawatha → Panchikawatte → Armor Street → Wales Kumara Mawatha → Thotalaga → Nawaloka Junction.

Vehicles from Negombo Road / Avissawella: Use Kelaniya–Biyagama Road → Kaduwela → Avissawella.

Route 120 buses will be permitted via: Lipton Circus → Kannangara Mawatha → Nelum Pokuna → Reed Mawatha → Thummulla without obstructing the convoy.

04.05.2026 – Morning Visit to Presidential Secretariat

Traffic restrictions will be enforced along:

N.S.A. Roundabout → Galle Middle Road → Bank Road.

Entry of buses and heavy vehicles will be prohibited two hours prior to the movement.

All vehicle access will be restricted once the convoy begins.

Alternative Routes:

Exit Colombo via: Ceramic Junction → D.R. Wijewardene Mawatha → Technical Junction → Maradana → Borella.

Vehicles entering via Galle Road: Divert at Galle Face Roundabout towards Company Street.

04.05.2026 – Afternoon Visit to Viharamahadevi Park

Routes affected:

Ceramic Junction → Regal → Pittala Junction → Library Roundabout → Nelum Pokuna → Dharmapala Road.

Alternative Routes:

Enter Colombo via: Galle Middle Road → N.S.A. Roundabout → President Mawatha → York Street.

Exit via: Technical Junction → Maradana / Borella or Baseline Road.
04.05.2026 – Evening Movement to President’s House
Traffic restrictions will apply along:

Bank Mawatha → President’s Mawatha → President’s House

Vehicles from Galle Road / High Level Road: Use Lipton Circus → Kannangara Mawatha → Reed Mawatha.

Entry via: Liberty Roundabout → Thummulla → Reid Avenue.
05.05.2026 – Visits (Museum, Maldives Embassy & Cultural Centre)

Route: Ceramic Junction → Regal → Library Junction → Museum → Bauddhaloka Mawatha → R.A. De Mel Mawatha → Galle Road → Melbourne Avenue → Havelock Road → Maya Roundabout → W.A. Silva Mawatha.

Return Route: Havelock Road → Thummulla → Nelum Pokuna → Pittala Junction → Ceramic Junction.

Alternative Routes:

Enter Colombo via: Kollupitiya → Galle Middle Road.

Exit Colombo via: Baseline Road → Maradana → Borella → Narahenpita.

Towards Kandy / Avissawella: Use Maligawatte → Grandpass → Kelaniya routes.

06.05.2026 – Departure to Airport

Route:

Bank Mawatha → President Mawatha → N.S.A. Roundabout → Galle Middle Road → Kollupitiya → Liberty Roundabout → Horton Place → Borella → Dematagoda → Orugodawatte → Expressway.

Alternative Routes:

From Kandy Road: Use Kelani Bridge → Grandpass → Panchikawatte → Borella.

From Galle / High Level / Baseline Roads: Use Borella → Castle Street → Kolonnawa → Kelaniya.

From Fort/Pettah: Use Olcott Mawatha → Panchikawatte → Thotalaga → Negombo Road.

Towards Avissawella: Use Kelaniya–Biyagama → Kaduwela.

General Traffic Advisory.

Traffic restrictions will be enforced intermittently along the above routes depending on VIP movements.

Heavy vehicles will be prohibited from entering affected roads two hours prior to each movement.

Entry of all other vehicles will be temporarily restricted during convoy movements.

Motorists are strongly advised to utilize designated alternative routes to minimize inconvenience.
