The Sri Lanka Police Environmental Protection Division regularly conducts a range of initiatives aimed at cleaning beaches affected by human activities and safeguarding the country’s vital coastal ecosystem.
As part of these ongoing efforts, a beach clean-up program was carried out at the heavily polluted Crow Island Beach in Mattakkuliya on the morning of 09 May 2026. The initiative was undertaken with the participation of local residents and officers attached to the Environmental Protection Division.
The programme was held under the patronage of Mr. Hanif Yusoof, Governor of the Western Province; Mr. S.G.C. Sugeeshwara; and Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Community Policing and Environmental Protection, Mr. R.A.R.N. Rajapaksa.
The event also received materials and equipment sponsored by several private-sector organizations, including Clean Ocean Force, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting Sri Lanka’s coastline.
Among those who participated in the program were Director of the Environmental Protection Division, Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. D.K. Manoj Perera; Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of the Colombo North Division, Mr. Eric Perera; and representatives of the Green IPA Project of the International Police Association. Also in attendance was the Secretary General of the International Police Association Sri Lanka Branch, Chief Inspector of Police Sunethra Seneviratne, together with a number of senior police officers and female officers.
