A district-level meeting in Puttalam District was held on 15 May 2026 as part of an island-wide program designed to engage with police officers serving across all districts and to discuss the challenges and concerns they face in the course of their duties.
The meeting took place at the Nilavin Hotel in Chilaw under the patronage of the Hon. Mr. Ananda Wijepala and IGP Mr. Priyantha Weerasooriya.
During the discussion, special attention was given to the occupational challenges encountered by police personnel, as well as matters relating to their welfare and working conditions.
Police officers were afforded the opportunity to directly share their views on the nature of their responsibilities and the practical difficulties they face on a daily basis. The Minister instructed the relevant authorities to take prompt action to resolve the issues identified and to further improve welfare facilities for officers.
In conjunction with the event, the newly refurbished Traffic Branch of the Chilaw Police Station was officially declared open.
The event was attended by several senior government and police officials, including Hon. Dr. A.H.M.H. Abhayaratne, SDIG Mr. Ajith Rohana, and DIG Mr. Priyantha Chandrasiri.
Police officers serving in the Puttalam Division and Chilaw Division, together with Officers-in-Charge and other personnel from across the district, also participated in the programme.
