Clarification Regarding the Proposed Duty-Free Electric Motorcycle Welfare Program for Sri Lanka Police Officers

A video currently circulating on social media alleges that several senior officers of the Sri Lanka Police are using the proposed duty-free electric motorcycle program for officers from the Police Constable (PC) to Chief Inspector (CI) ranks to secure personal benefits.

In response to these claims, the Director of the Police Transport Division has submitted a report addressing the matters raised in the video. Based on the findings of that report, the following clarifications are issued.

As part of a welfare initiative aimed at improving the welfare and living standards of officers serving in the Sri Lanka Police, the Government has granted preliminary approval for the implementation of a duty-free electric motorcycle scheme for officers in the Police Constable (PC) to Chief Inspector (CI) ranks.

To date, discussions have focused on the policy framework, implementation procedures, and the legal and financial provisions required for the program. Procurement activities will commence only after all necessary approvals and key policy decisions have been finalized.

According to the report submitted by the Director of the Police Transport Division, the proposed program is being implemented in a transparent manner and in full compliance with the applicable government procurement procedures.

Accordingly, the report concludes that the allegations made in the circulating social media video are based on inaccurate and misleading information. It further states that the actual status of the program is as outlined above.
