Sri Lanka Police Pledge Commitment to “A Culture of Integrity – A Clean Sri Lanka”

The National Integrity Week, jointly declared by the Presidential Secretariat and the Clean Sri Lanka Programme, commenced today. The initiative will be observed from 27 July 2026 to 31 July 2027, promoting a culture of integrity, accountability and ethical governance across the public sector.

On the morning of 27 July 2026, police officers serving at Police Headquarters, every Police Division across the island, and members of the civil staff simultaneously took the official Integrity Oath.

Integrity is defined as carrying out one’s duties conscientiously, transparently and ethically through self-discipline, self-regulation and accountability, while firmly rejecting bribery, corruption and all forms of misconduct.

At Police Headquarters, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Attorney-at-Law Mr. Priyantha Weerasooriya, administered the oath to police officers and civilian staff. Addressing those present, the IGP emphasised that every member of the Sri Lanka Police must perform their responsibilities in accordance with the highest ethical standards and continue to deliver a professional, efficient, transparent and people-centered policing service.

Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (Administration), Sanjeewa Dharmarathne, also addressed the gathering, further explaining the objectives and significance of the National Integrity Week initiative.

Police divisions and police stations throughout the country participated in the ceremony virtually, joining the proceedings online.

Following the address, all police officers reaffirmed their commitment by taking the Code of Ethics Oath, in line with the ethical guidelines issued by the Presidential Secretariat and endorsed by the National Police Commission.

Distinct themes have been designated for each of the five days of National Integrity Week, and the Sri Lanka Police has planned a series of awareness and engagement programmes to mark the occasion throughout the week.
