Police Officers Who Rescued 11 Sailors at Sea Commended by Navy Commander

Police officers who demonstrated exceptional courage and dedication in rescuing 11 sailors in the Angulana sea area were commended by the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy.

The Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Angulana Police Station and a team of police officers who responded swiftly, despite challenging sea conditions, and rescued 11 sailors after the Sri Lanka Navy fast attack patrol boat P4447 encountered difficulties in the Angulana sea area were commended at a ceremony held at Navy Headquarters today (21.08.2026).

The ceremony was held under the patronage of Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Damian Fernando, together with Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Western Province (South) Division, Samantha Wijesekera, and OIC of the Angulana Police Station, Chief Inspector L.W. Ace.

A total of 10 police officers, including Mr. J. Bandara, were presented with letters of commendation in recognition of their courageous actions.

The Commander of the Navy commended the police officers for going beyond the normal scope of their duties, displaying a high degree of professionalism and demonstrating exceptional courage during the rescue operation.

The ceremony also highlighted the incident as a notable example of the strong inter-agency cooperation, coordination and mutual understanding between the Sri Lanka Navy and the Sri Lanka Police.
