Inspector General of Police holds discussion with the officers of National Child Protection Authority

A discussion has been taken place in the morning of November 13, 2024, at Police Headquarters between the Acting Inspector General of Police (Attorney at Law), Mr. Priyantha Weerasooriya, and the officers of the National Child Protection Authority, which directly involves child protection and dedicates its service in creating a child-friendly environment.
During the discussion, the crimes reported in relation to children in the recent past and the steps to be taken to prevent such incidents along with future plans in relation to child safety were discussed at length, and many such important matters, including how to act properly to take all the rightful measures in safeguarding the children who became victims of various types of abuse and protecting their rights, were also discussed.
A number of cases in relation to child abuse, sexual exploitation, and rape of minors due to reasons such as parental negligence and love affairs were reported daily to Children and Women Bureaus established in police stations. The Inspector General of Police has given instructions to senior police officers to take immediate measures for the prevention of such crimes.
