For the lives of children lost in the floods.

The Police Marine Division has taken measures to increase the number of workshops and programs conducted by police lifesaving officers to prevent deaths due to adverse weather conditions that affect the country annually and due to drowning.

A series of awareness workshops targeting school children is being launched under this initiative, based on many tragic incidents, mainly including the one in which 08 students drowned in the floods when a tractor transporting children overturned in the Ninthavur area on 26.11.2024.

Similarly, one program organised for the students of Parakrama Primary School, Ampara, was successfully conducted at the said school on 08.01.2024 by the Police Lifesaving Officers of the Ampara Division.

A large number of children in the Suduwella area of Ampara, who are facing the threat of flooding due to the rains, have been educated under this program. The program consisted of a meaningful lecture on a number of important points, such as the dangers of going to see floods, the risks involved in using roads, how to travel, and the need and means of protecting themselves from the perils posed by animals, including snakes, that are washed onto land in such situations.
