494 kg and 48 g of heroin for which the legal proceedings have concluded, were incinerated

The Sri Lanka Police conducts regular operations under the instructions of the Acting Inspector General of Police in order to eradicate illegal drugs from the country. Police officers, in accordance with their oath, perform their duties with immense dedication and enthusiasm while handling court proceedings and investigations related to arrested drug traffickers.

A total of 494 kilograms and 48 grams of seized heroin, for which the legal proceedings have concluded, was taken to the Palaviya area in Puttalam under tight police security and destroyed in the incinerator belonging to INSEE Cement Company on 28.04.2025.

This stock of heroin includes 250kg and 996g of heroin apprehended in possession of six foreign individuals during a raid conducted by the officers of Sri Lanka Navy and Police Narcotic Bureau on 15.12.2021 and 243 kg 052g of heroin apprehended in possession of 07 foreign suspects during a raid conducted by the officers of Sri Lanka Navy and Police Narcotic Bureau on 19.04.2022.
