A workshop for an international operation named “LIONFISHMAYAG III”, organised by the INTERPOL Drug Unit under the MAYAG project funded by the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA), is scheduled to be held in Colombo from 30th June to 4th July 2025.

The inaugural ceremony was held today, 30.06.2025, at the Hilton Hotel in Colombo under the patronage of the Hon. Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr Ananda Wijepala, with the participation of the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security, former Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Mr Ravi Seneviratne, and the Acting Inspector General of Police, Attorney-at-Law Mr Priyantha Weerasuriya. Officers of the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) Mohamed Al-Mari and Alkia Favaretto, KNPA officer Sayungo Lee, and a number of senior police officers in Sri Lanka participated in this event.

Through the operation LIONFISH, it will foster collaboration of the Sri Lanka Police, Naval Intelligence Unit, Sri Lanka Customs and the Forensic Medicine Unit of the Ministry of Health with INTERPOL for working together to identify and control networked drug trafficking operations taking place within international maritime boundaries.

Under this, opportunities will be provided to develop drug prevention intelligence units, develop cybercrime detection and digital forensic services, and develop technical services, and Sri Lankan security forces will have greater ability to strengthen regional security through high-tech equipment for drug detection and destruction, as well as for coordination between maritime borders.
