On 04.10.2024, Galle Division Criminal Investigation Bureau and Ahangama Police Station are conducting investigations to arrest two suspects related to the murder of a man and a woman who were residing in Walhengoda area of Ahangama Police Area.The two suspects have now fled the area.Details of the suspects 01. Ice drug and heroin worth more than Rs 220 million found in a lorry.

Two suspects have been arrested today, 26 – 11 – 2024, during a raid conducted in the area of Watareka of Meegoda Police area, by the Special Task Force, for keeping the possession of 57 kg of ice drug and 29 kg of heroin. Value of the drugs stashed away in a lorry parked near a house has been estimated as Rs 220 million. Facts have been revealed during the investigation that the drugs belonged to a large-scale drug smuggler and organized criminal named Unapurawe Shantha. The suspects arrested during the raid are two close relatives of Unapurawe Shantha, and they are at the aged of 41 and 31 years, and residents of Moragahahena and Thalavatugoda areas. Acting Inspector General of Police, Priyantha Weerasuriya (Attorney-at-Law) and Commandant of the Special Task Force, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police, Varuna Jayasundara (Attorney-at-Law) inspected the drugs detained, and instructed to handover the drug to the Police Narcotics Control Bureau. Accordingly, further investigations are being carried out by the Narcotics Control Bureau.

Inspector General of Police visits Matara to inspect the large-scale raid of 220 kg of narcotics

The Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of Matara Division has received a piece of information on trafficking a large quantity of drugs by a van that has been illegally imported to Sri Lanka from Gandara Nunnawella area by a boat on the night of 18.11.2024. Accordingly, the Division Criminal Investigation Bureau, Matara has taken necessary measures and arrested six persons on grounds of vague suspicion. Investigation and interrogation have been carried out and subsequently, three more suspects have been arrested in the areas of Mount and Ratmalana. Further interrogation was conducted, 160 kg of Crystal Meth and 60 kg of HeroinHave been found from a house in Nagoda area and another suspect in connection with this has been arrested. An amount of Rupees Six hundred and fifteen thousand uncovered from the suspects, has been taken into the custody of the Police Officers. The suspects are at the age between 20 and 40 and they are residents of Devinuwara, Gandara, Matugama, Yakkalamulla, Beliaatta, Nagoda, Maharagama, Ratmalana and Welipanna. On the orders of the Inspector General of Police, Police Narcotics Bureau will conduct further investigations based on the information that has been disclosed to arrest the main suspects who imported the said quantity of narcotics into Sri Lanka.

An awareness program to educate children to prevent themselves from becoming victims.

Sri Lanka Police has carried out a number of awareness programs in schools islandwide to make the students aware on the grounds that the number of reported crimes in relation to children has increased.The community policing division, together with “Peace,” a nongovernmental organization, successfully conducted a program as such on 20.11.2024 morning in front of Colombo Fort Railway Station for 150 students of selected schools in Colombo Central Division.The officers who organized the program have taken action to educate the children through dramatic presentations on how a criminal with an intention of committing a crime attempts to manipulate a child, how a child should escape from such a situation, and to whom they should inform.Apart from the school children, the people gathered around were also seen participating in this program with great enthusiasm. Three officers from Interpol headquarters to meet CID officials

Three special representatives of the International Police Headquarters established in Lyon, France came to Sri Lanka and held a two-day workshop for the officers of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Sri Lanka Police on 25.11.2024 and 26.11.2024 at Hilton Hotel under the leadership of Mr. Priyantha Weerasuriya, Acting Inspector General of Police and with the participation of officer in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, Deputy Inspector General of Police, P. Ampawila. Obtaining international red notices for the arrest of criminals who are abroad and committing organized crimes in Sri Lanka, regularly providing information to the International Police and exchanging information with the International Police have been extensively discussed here. So far, the foreign officials who have been present have expressed favorable comments regarding the successful arrests made by the Sri Lanka Police together with the International Police through Red Notices. The Children and Women Bureau at Police Station Nanu Oya declared open with a new look

The Bureau for the Prevention of Abuse of Children and Women, Nanu Oya has been formally established in a separate section within the Police Station, Nanu Oya. The Bureau was declared open by Mr. P. N. Ekanayaka, Assistant Superintendent of Police of Nuwara Eliya Division, on 20.11.2024, followed by a brief ceremony. The objective of setting up the Bureau in a new place is to create a suitable environment for the children and women in the area to lodge complaints regarding the crimes they experience or problems they encounter, whilst preserving their privacy.Actions are being taken to establish Children and Women Bureaus, to extend a service in such a formal and friendly manner, in every police station as per the instructions and orders of the acting Inspector General of Police, (Attorney at Law), Mr. Priyantha Weerasooriya, and that will provide opportunity for children as well as women to get justice served more conveniently. “The Missed Lesson” An exciting programme in line with Worlds Children’s Day

When the entire world is celebrating International Children’s Day and Elders’ Day today, 01.10.2024, on the theme of “Extend Hands of Compassion—Let’s Protect Elders and the Children”, a series of speeches and performances organized by the Bureau for the Prevention of Abuse of Children and Women in association with the Ministry of Education under the Children’s Day theme of “Protect and treat every child equally” were held at the Nagananda Buddhist University premises in Manelwatta this morning (01.10.2024).Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, the Prime Minister- Minister of Education, grace the event as the chief guest.About 1000 students from 10 schools of Kelaniya Education Division participated in this program, and apart from insightful speeches, the Police Cultural Division, Police Band Division, and Police Kennel Division joined the program by letting the students enjoy their performances. Convocation of the Degree Programme, ‘National Security and Strategic Studies’

Security personnel who have successfully completed the Degree on ‘National Security and Strategic Studies’ from General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University have been awarded at the convocation which was held on 18-11-2024 at the University. The Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, (Retired) Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha graced the ceremony as the chief guest, and the Commanders of Tri Forces, and Acting Inspector General of Police, Priyantha Weerasooriya (Attorney-at-Law) have participated in the event. This degree programme has been conducted and administered by the National Defence College (NDC), the most recognized institute in Sri Lanka, which awards degree programme on national security. Inspector General of Police holds discussion with the officers of National Child Protection Authority

A discussion has been taken place in the morning of November 13, 2024, at Police Headquarters between the Acting Inspector General of Police (Attorney at Law), Mr. Priyantha Weerasooriya, and the officers of the National Child Protection Authority, which directly involves child protection and dedicates its service in creating a child-friendly environment.During the discussion, the crimes reported in relation to children in the recent past and the steps to be taken to prevent such incidents along with future plans in relation to child safety were discussed at length, and many such important matters, including how to act properly to take all the rightful measures in safeguarding the children who became victims of various types of abuse and protecting their rights, were also discussed.A number of cases in relation to child abuse, sexual exploitation, and rape of minors due to reasons such as parental negligence and love affairs were reported daily to Children and Women Bureaus established in police stations. The Inspector General of Police has given instructions to senior police officers to take immediate measures for the prevention of such crimes. 08 People Arrested In Connection With the Murder of Fishermen –Medigama

The Matara Division Criminal Investigation Bureau investigated the crime of killing a person engaged in fish business and seriously injuring two others near the Goiyapana Bridge in Midigama on 19.09.2024 by coming on a motorcycle and shooting with a T.56 firearm and a pistol type firearm. 08 suspects involved in that crime were arrested on 03.11.2024 along with a pistol-type firearm and 05 rounds of ammunition. Among the suspects are the suspect who came on a motorcycle and shot with a pistol, a suspect who kept the weapon and 05 rounds of ammunition after the crime, and 05 other suspects who aided and abetted the crime and one female suspect. These suspects are between the ages of 20 and 42 and are residents of Wellawaya, Weligama, Ahangama and Midigama areas and officers of the Matara Division Criminal Investigation Bureau have taken action to arrest them in those areas. Police have seized Rs. 1,542,000- rupees suspected to have been earned from heroin smuggling in the possession of the suspect residing at Weligama who was in possession of the pistol, and it has been revealed that he is a close relative of a person who is carrying out organized crime and drug smuggling in this country from a foreign country. The Matara Division Criminal Investigation Bureau is conducting a lengthy investigation in connection with them.
