Police Cadet Division’s contribution of labour to Nagoda College, Kalutara

Based on the plans to create a clean and healthy environment for the public to live, which is one of the main programmes of the Clean Sri Lanka National Programme, we, the Sri Lanka Police, are carrying out a variety of social services together with the public at the police division level. Under the guidance of the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Police Cadet Range, Mr. Roshan Rajapaksha, and under the direction of the Director of the Police Cadet Division, Senior Superintendent of Police, Mr. Chinthaka Gunaratne, and under the supervision of the Deputy Director of the Police Cadet Division and Administration Senior Superintendent of Police, Mr. P. D. P. Perera, such a programme was held at Nagoda College, Kalutara on 17.01.2025, with the contribution of labour of the officers of the Police Cadet Division, and steps have been taken to identify untidy places on the college grounds that could pose a threat to the safety of the students and to create a clean and safe environment, with the participation of the students. An awareness program held at Topawewa National School Polonnaruwa with the objective of preventing school children from water-related accidents

Making a contribution to the concept of “Clean Sri Lanka,” Police Sergeant 74594 Jayasinghe, Police Sergeant 69427 Senevirathna, Police Constable 82094 Walisingha, and Police Constable 105265 Kumara of the Polonnaruwa Lifesaving Unit conducted an awareness program on 13.01.2025, with the participation of 150 students of the Topawewa National School Polonnaruwa, the principal, the staff of teachers of the school, and the parents, with the objective of preventing school children from water-related accidents that occur every day. During this program, awareness was also raised about the environment and the importance of protecting it. Afterwards, a program was held to clean the area around Parakrama Samudraya and its environment. The Municipal Council Polonnaruwa, Public Health Office, and the business community contributed to the success of this program. For the lives of children lost in the floods.

The Police Marine Division has taken measures to increase the number of workshops and programs conducted by police lifesaving officers to prevent deaths due to adverse weather conditions that affect the country annually and due to drowning. A series of awareness workshops targeting school children is being launched under this initiative, based on many tragic incidents, mainly including the one in which 08 students drowned in the floods when a tractor transporting children overturned in the Ninthavur area on 26.11.2024. Similarly, one program organised for the students of Parakrama Primary School, Ampara, was successfully conducted at the said school on 08.01.2024 by the Police Lifesaving Officers of the Ampara Division.   A large number of children in the Suduwella area of Ampara, who are facing the threat of flooding due to the rains, have been educated under this program. The program consisted of a meaningful lecture on a number of important points, such as the dangers of going to see floods, the risks involved in using roads, how to travel, and the need and means of protecting themselves from the perils posed by animals, including snakes, that are washed onto land in such situations. We, who strive to save lives by preventing road accidents and water accidents

Police life guards in the Matale Division have taken action to conduct a one-day workshop on life-saving, first aid, and capacity building for 40 agricultural officers and development officers of the Agrarian Service Center, Dambulla, centering on the Life Guard Point in Ibbankatuwa Reservoir, Dambulla.  Retired S. I. Sunil, the then officer in charge of the Police Marine Division, stated that the workshop was successfully conducted all day long on 01.07.2025, under the permission and instructions given by the Director of the Police Marine Division and the Senior Superintendent of the Police -officer in charge of the Matale division. Police Constable 105232 Thilakasiri, who performs duties attached to the Thal Sevana Lifeguard Unit, Kankesanthurai, too participates in this workshop in order to assist lifeguards in the Matale Division, in spite of his leave to visit his family, and his act of supporting has been praised by the participants as well. Sri Lanka Police conducts a life saving training for forty Ven. Bhikkus

The police lifeguards attached to the Police Marine Division play a vital role in reducing the number of drowning deaths reported daily.  Mainly the workshops are designed to teach how to prevent themselves and rescue others from drowning. Christmas to the children of the area from Maligawatta Police Station

The properly constructed swimming pool of the Aralaganwila Police College is declared open

The swimming pool of the Aralaganwila Police College, which was renovated in an attractive manner, was declared open on the morning of 06.12.2024 under the leadership of the Director of the Police College Division, Senior Superintendent of Police, Mr. J. A. Chandrasena, with the participation of Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mr. Ruchira Karunanayaka.Since it is mandatory for a recruit police officer to appear for and pass a swimming test to get confirmed in the service in Sri Lanka Police, the availability of such swimming pools provides great opportunity for those who are unable to swim when joining the police service, so that they can acquire the skill during the basic training period.The Officer in Charge and staff of the College, under the leadership of Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. K. D. Chandrapala, Deputy Director of the Aralaganwila Police College, offered their labour with great dedication to renovate this swimming pool, which was essential element for the college, at a minimum cost while maintaining its quality. The New Unit of the Bureau for the Prevention of Abuse of Children and Women is declared open at Police Station- Pesalai.

The renovated unit of the Bureau for the Prevention of Abuse of Children and Women has been formally established in a separate section within the Police Station- Pesalai in Mannar Island. The unit was declared open by Mr. Thilak Abeywickrama Dhanapala, the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Northern Province on 26.11.2024, followed by a brief ceremony.The objective of setting up the Bureau in a new place to create a suitable environment for the children and women in the area to lodge complaints regarding the crimes they experience or problems they encounter, whilst preserving their privacy.Action are being taken to establish Children and Women Bureaus, to extend a service in such a formal and friendly manner, in every police station as per the instructions and orders of the acting Inspector General of Police (Attorney at Law), Mr. Priyantha Weerasooriya, and that will provide opportunity for children as well as women to get justice served more conveniently. As per the orders given by the Inspector General of Police, a Unit of the Bureau for Children and Women, dedicated to serve children and women, should be formally established and maintained in every police station. The new Unit of the Bureau for children and Women of Mannar Headquarters Station, which was thus renovated, was declared open today, 26.11.2024, under the leadership of the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Northern Province, Mr. Thilak Abeywickrama Dhanapala.Female police officers proficient in both Sinhala and Tamil languages have been attached to this Unit.The ability to explain women and children’s problems preserving their privacy and arranging the office environment in a mentally relaxing manner are among the main objectives of this project.
