The conference held by the Bribery and Corruption Investigation Commission on the theme of International Anti-Corruption Day was held today (09) at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall and the Acting Inspector General of Police, Attorney-at- Law, Mr. Priyantha Weerasooriya also participated in it.
The annual concert of the Pre-School Trio, ‘‘Tiny Tots’’ located at the Police Field Force Headquarters, Kew Road, and Maradana, which is managed by the Police Families Welfare Association for the purpose of providing education exclusively to the children of police officers, was held on the evening of 04.12.2024 at the Buddhist Cultural Centre, Colombo 05. The Acting Inspector General of Police, Attorney-at-Law, Mr. Priyantha Weerasooriya and his wife, Mrs. N. Neeta Samarathunga, participated in this event as the chief guests.The knowledge, diverse skills such as dancing and singing acquired by children for almost a period of two years was modestly showcased in a graceful manner before their parents and invitees through this concert while commanding further respect of the audience towards the pre-school trio.The concert came to an end awarding a number of gifts to the children and the dance performances of the Police Cultural Division presented to entertain children, made the concert even more vibrant.The Inspector General of Police stated that necessary steps will be taken to start such pre-schools in all the Police Divisions island in the near future for the children of police officers.Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Police Support Services Range – Mr. Rajitha Sri Daminda, Commandant of the Police Special Task Force – Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police – Mr. Waruna Jayasundara, Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Police Welfare Division – Mrs. W. The Second International Symposium on Drug Related Studies organized by the Dangerous Drugs Control Board was held on 03. 12. 2024 at Sri Lanka Foundation Institute. The Hon. Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security and the Acting Inspector General of Police and other officials participated in the symposium. The grand finale of IG’s Trophy Taekwondo Tournament – 2024 was held on the 28.11.2024 at the Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Colombo, and the South Korean Ambassador to Sri Lanka has graced the evening as the chief guest, and the Acting Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya (Attorney-at-Law) has participated in this event. The tournament was held in several stages, and it consisted of two categories – the veteran category and the novice category. After the final competition, certificate awarding ceremony was started. The officer, R. M. G. K. G. Pushpakumara 93065 of Police Special Task Force won the trophy and certificate as the best player in the veteran category while Police Constable 107099P. Thermilan who is attached to Police Division – Ampara, was awarded as the best player in the novice category. In the final contest of the novice category of the tournament, the Northern Province team was defeated by the Southern Province team by 29-20 points and the Southern Province team won the trophy for the novice championship. Accordingly, the Northern Provincebecome the first runner-up in the novice category. Police Special Task Force won the championship in the final battle of the tournament by defeating the Sri Lankan Police team by 36-11. Accordingly, the Sri Lanka Police team was the first runner-up in the veteran category. Police Sergeant A. G. C. I. Thushara won the award for the best referee of the tournament. Senior Police Officers including the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Training and Higher Training Division – Mr. Sanjeewa Medawatte, the Commandant of Special Task Force, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Waruna Jayasundara, the President of Police Taekwondo Association and D. Three special representatives of the International Police Headquarters established in Lyon, France came to Sri Lanka and held a two-day workshop for the officers of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Sri Lanka Police on 25.11.2024 and 26.11.2024 at Hilton Hotel under the leadership of Mr. Priyantha Weerasuriya, Acting Inspector General of Police and with the participation of officer in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, Deputy Inspector General of Police, P. Ampawila. Obtaining international red notices for the arrest of criminals who are abroad and committing organized crimes in Sri Lanka, regularly providing information to the International Police and exchanging information with the International Police have been extensively discussed here. So far, the foreign officials who have been present have expressed favorable comments regarding the successful arrests made by the Sri Lanka Police together with the International Police through Red Notices. Security personnel who have successfully completed the Degree on ‘National Security and Strategic Studies’ from General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University have been awarded at the convocation which was held on 18-11-2024 at the University. The Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, (Retired) Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha graced the ceremony as the chief guest, and the Commanders of Tri Forces, and Acting Inspector General of Police, Priyantha Weerasooriya (Attorney-at-Law) have participated in the event. This degree programme has been conducted and administered by the National Defence College (NDC), the most recognized institute in Sri Lanka, which awards degree programme on national security. A discussion has been taken place in the morning of November 13, 2024, at Police Headquarters between the Acting Inspector General of Police (Attorney at Law), Mr. Priyantha Weerasooriya, and the officers of the National Child Protection Authority, which directly involves child protection and dedicates its service in creating a child-friendly environment.During the discussion, the crimes reported in relation to children in the recent past and the steps to be taken to prevent such incidents along with future plans in relation to child safety were discussed at length, and many such important matters, including how to act properly to take all the rightful measures in safeguarding the children who became victims of various types of abuse and protecting their rights, were also discussed.A number of cases in relation to child abuse, sexual exploitation, and rape of minors due to reasons such as parental negligence and love affairs were reported daily to Children and Women Bureaus established in police stations. The Inspector General of Police has given instructions to senior police officers to take immediate measures for the prevention of such crimes.
