A gift for children starting their school life

Giving away of a financial voucher for the children of Police Officers who are going to enter grade 1 happens every year under the patronage of  the Sri Lanka Police Buddhist and Religious Affairs Association and the Police Health and Welfare Scheme enabling them to perches a school bag and a pair of shoes.  The gifting of vouchers to children starting their school life in 2025 was also held in the morning of 31.12.2024 under the leadership of Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr. Priyantha Weerasooriya.  This voucher will be issued by their police division within a short period of time to all police officers on duty across the island who are entitled to it.

Badges and certificates to another batch of police officers who have successfully completed the senior and junior Traffic Management Courses

The ceremony of awarding certificates and badges for two batches of Police officers, who have successfully completed Police Traffic Management Course which makes police officers qualified to manage traffic and drive police vehicles as skillful traffic officers, was held on 24.12.2024 under the leadership of Mr. Priyantha Weerasuriya (Attorney-at-Law), Acting Inspector General of Police, at the Police Criminal Records Division, Colombo. The course is held under two categories. Senior Traffic Management Course is conducted for Inspector Grade Police officers and Junior Traffic Management Course is conducted for Junior Grade Police officers. Accordingly, badges and certificates were awarded to 119 Inspector Grade Police officers who have successfully completed the Senior Traffic Management Course as the 22nd batch, and 96 Junior Grade Police officers who completed the Junior Traffic Management Course as the 44th batch. Inspector General of Police, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Crime and Traffic, Mr. Ranmal Kodituwakku, Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Traffic and Road Safety Range, Mr. Indika Hapugoda, Director of Traffic and Administration Division, Senior Superintendent of Police, Mr. Manoj Ranagala, and a number of senior police officers have participated in the ceramony.

Christmas Carol Concert of Sri Lanka Police held once againin a grand manner

The Christmas Carol Concert, a major event of the series of programs organized annually by the Sri Lanka Police to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, was held in a grand manner on the evening of 18.12.2024 at the Kularatne Hall, Ananda College, Colombo.  His Eminence, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith participated in the concert as the chief guest, while Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Public Security, (Attorney-at-law) Mr. Sunil Watagala, Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (Retd.) Mr. Ravi Seneviratne, Acting Inspector General of Police, (Attorney-at-law) Mr. Priyantha Weerasooriya, and many other dignitaries were also present. Guest singers of repute, Mariazell Goonetilleke, Glifford Richards, Falan Adrea, Sonal Prabashitha along with officers of  Sri Lanka Police with the talent of singing, presented carol singing accompanied by the melodious music of the Western Band of Sri Lanka Police Western Band. The dance performances of the Police Cultural Division added colour to the singing event, which immersed the audience in a delightful and soothing experience. The concert, which was a great success held with the generous support of many police divisions, came to an end at midnight, wishing everyone a merry Christmas. 197 Junior Police Officers passed out, having acquired profound knowledge on traffic law

You may have been witness to the sight of Police officers with white cross belts, who provide an extensive service to manage traffic congestion in the morning and the evening on the main road system in Colombo city and suburbs. 197 officers, including two Women Police officers have voluntarily applied for the Course to become a proud member of the team of officers who extend their service from the dawn, regardless of the harsh sun or the heavy rain. Having successfully completed the Junior Traffic Management Course, these officers gracefully passed out on 17 – 12 – 2024. The ceremony of awarding the certificates and badges to the qualified officers was held at the Criminal Records Division (CRD) of Torrington Place, Colombo, under the leadership of Mr. Ranmal Kodituvakku, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police, in charge of Crimes & Traffic. This course, which consists of 05 weeks of theoretical training and 03 weeks of practical training, was held under 02 groups, and those two groups were marked as the 42nd and 43rd groups respectively, that completed the course. Director and Media Spokesperson of the Police Media Division, Senior Superintendent of Police, Mr. Buddhika Manatunga, assumes duties at the Police Media Division.

Having appointed as the Director and Media Spokesperson of the Police Media Division on 2024.12.02, Senior Superintendent of Police, Mr. Buddhika Manatunga, (LLB) officially assumed duties in his post at the Police Media Division, located at 14th Floor, Suhurupaya, Battaramulla on the morning of 16th December 2024.  Being an alumnus of Ananda College, Colombo, he is a Bachelor of Science degree holder from the University of Peradeniya, a Postgraduate in Science, and a Bachelor of Law degree holder from the Open University. He joined the Sri Lanka Police service as an Assistant Superintendent of Police on 01.01.2014 and was promoted to the post of Superintendent of Police on 01.01.2020, and to the post of Senior Superintendent of Police on 01.01.2024. He has followed many training courses relevant to police service locally as well as in foreign countries such as, Russia, Thailand, the Philippines and Cambodia. Centenary of the Police Savings Association

The Police Savings Association, which was formed 100 years ago to provide economic relief to the police officers, was established with the objective of improving the financial stability of police officers by saving money until their retirement. In the year 1924, the Superintendent of Police at the time, Mr. J. D. Aitkin, has formed the Police Savings Association to ensure legality in terms of financial matters. The Police Savings Association has been able to solve all the financial problems of police officers throughout the journey upon the celebration of its centenary. This anniversary celebration was held today, 12.12.2024, at the auditorium of the Police Savings Association with the participation of the Hon. Inspector General of Police – Mr. Priyantha Weerasooriya and a number of senior officials with the blessings of all religious leaders. 2024 Annual Concert of the Pre-School Trio ‘‘Tiny Tots’’

The annual concert of the Pre-School Trio, ‘‘Tiny Tots’’ located at the Police Field Force Headquarters, Kew Road, and Maradana, which is managed by the Police Families Welfare Association for the purpose of providing education exclusively to the children of police officers, was held on the evening of 04.12.2024 at the Buddhist Cultural Centre, Colombo 05. The Acting Inspector General of Police, Attorney-at-Law, Mr. Priyantha Weerasooriya and his wife, Mrs. N. Neeta Samarathunga, participated in this event as the chief guests.The knowledge, diverse skills such as dancing and singing acquired by children for almost a period of two years was modestly showcased in a graceful manner before their parents and invitees through this concert while commanding further respect of the audience towards the pre-school trio.The concert came to an end awarding a number of gifts to the children and the dance performances of the Police Cultural Division presented to entertain children, made the concert even more vibrant.The Inspector General of Police stated that necessary steps will be taken to start such pre-schools in all the Police Divisions island in the near future for the children of police officers.Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Police Support Services Range – Mr. Rajitha Sri Daminda, Commandant of the Police Special Task Force – Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police – Mr. Waruna Jayasundara, Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Police Welfare Division – Mrs. W. Treasurer of the Police Families Welfare Association and Chairwoman of the Education Committee – Mrs. Jayanthi Ekanayake, and many officers, parents, relatives and friends of the children, had participated to watch the concert.

The Second International Symposium on Drug-Related Studies

The Second International Symposium on Drug Related Studies organized by the Dangerous Drugs Control Board was held on 03. 12. 2024 at Sri Lanka Foundation Institute. The Hon. Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security and the Acting Inspector General of Police and other officials participated in the symposium.
