Payment of traffic fines via GOV PAY is now available in the Southern Province

The Government Payment System (GOV PAY) has been provided to pay the fine you receive for a traffic violation in the Southern Province.

This facility, which was initiated as a pilot project in 14 police stations in the North Western Province, including Kurunegala and Anuradhapura, and the North Central Province, was subsequently successfully implemented in the Western Province and along the expressway, and steps have been taken to provide it to police stations in the Southern Province as well.

Chairman of the Task Force on Digital Affairs of the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development, Harsha Purasinghe, said during a press conference held at the Government Information Department on 20.10.2025 that fines worth about 30 million rupees have been collected through the Govpay online payment facility launched jointly by the Ministry of Digital Economy, ICTA and Lankapay. Accordingly, the fines have been collected about 20,000 times, he further stated.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Traffic Control and Road Safety Division in the Southern Province and the Western Province Traffic Division, Mr. W.P.J. Senadheera, stated that the necessary facilities, telephones and knowledge have been provided to the police stations to provide this facility to the public and this is being done further. Mr. W.P.J. Senadheera stated that this system should be used without hesitation to minimize time and effort and that the most important thing is to drive safely so as not to receive a fine.

To pay the fine through this system, you can ask for instructions from the police officer who issues the fine slip/card and after payment, you can collect your driving license at the same time. If necessary, you can also pay at a later time by referring to the instructions at https://govpay.lk/si/spot-fine.

The facility to pay fines through GOV pay is scheduled to be implemented in the Northern Province next.
