A person who provided accommodation to two people who came for the shooting incident at Meetiyagoda on 03.05.2025 has been arrested

A suspect who provided accommodation to two suspects on the previous and following days of 03.05.2025, on which the shooting took place, at Meetiyagoda killing two people, has been taken into custody by the Special Operations Unit Southern Province of the Police Special Task Force on 06.05.2025 at Weragoda, Meetiyagoda and produced to the Meetiyagoda Police Station. The suspect is a 46-year-old resident of the Weragama area. The Meetiyagoda Police Station is conducting further investigations into the suspect.

Two persons, who aided and abetted the shooting incident reported from the Hirana area on 29.04.2025, arrested

The Organized Crime Prevention Unit of the Police Special Task Force arrested two persons on the night of 05.05.2025 for the possession of 30 grams of the narcotic Ice, and later it has been uncovered that they are two suspects who aided and abetted the shooting reported from the Hirana area in Panadura on 29.04.2025. After finding out through investigations that they are close associates of an organized criminal and a drug trafficker living abroad, it has been further revealed that they had provided a firearm and a van for the purpose of transportation to the suspects who were directly involved in the shooting incident in the Hirana area. The two 21 and 25-year-old suspects, who are residents of Maradana and Colombo 13, have been produced to the Police Station Kompagngna Veediya for further investigations.

Accordingly, training courses are scheduled to be held for nearly 2250 officers attached to the Police Children and Women Bureaus islandwide, including junior officers and officers of the inspectors’ grade newly attached to this bureau. This training consists of 03 elements as a five-day course, 03-week course, and a diploma. The objective of this workshop is to identify the basic curriculum for improving the knowledge, skills and expertise of officers in the prevention of sexual and gender-based violence. Under this initiative, this training program was conducted with the aim of preventing sexual and gender-based violence in collaboration with government agencies and civil organizations such as the Attorney General’s Department, the Universities of Sri Jayewardenepura and Kelaniya, National Authority for the Protection of Victims of Crime and Witnesses, National Child Protection Authority, Child Protection Force, Family Health Bureau, Department of Probation, etc. The official inaugural programme was held on 26.04.2025 and Senior Professor at the University of Kelaniya, Consultant Judicial Medical Officer, Ms. Anuruddhi Edirisinghe, Executive Director of the National Police Academy, DIG Jaliya Senarathne, DIG in charge of Children and Women Abuse Investigation Range, Renuka Jayasundara, Chief Administrative Officer of the National Police Academy SSP Nishantha Chandrasekara, Deputy Director, Police Academic Training ASP Namali Herath, and a number of officers of the Children and Women Bureau participated in this event. A main suspect who handled many crimes in this country while hiding abroad was repatriated

The main suspect, Lattuwahandi Sujeewa Ruwan Kumara Silva alias Loku Patty, an organized criminal who masterminded the crime of killing two people, including the person named Club Wasantha, and injuring four other people in the Athurugiriya Police Area on 08.07.2024, was brought to this country from the Katunayake Airport on the morning of 04.05.2025. Since many criminals and suspects involved in organized crime and drug trafficking remain abroad, the International Criminal Police Organization has issued red notices for their arrest at the request and as per the investigations of the Sri Lanka Police. This individual who had been wanted as the main suspect in connection with many grave crimes committed in this country was recently arrested from the Republic of Belarus by the security forces of the said country. It has been revealed that he had handled, aided and abetted the following crimes while hiding abroad – • A case is pending in the High Court Kalutara on the possession and trafficking of 23 grams of heroin in the Welipenna Police Area on 21.05.2016. • A case is pending in the Magistrate’s Court Kesbewa on committing homicide and causing grievous hurt by shooting in the Piliyandala Police Area on 09.05.2017. • A case is pending in the High Court Kalutara on the possession and trafficking of 299 grams of heroin on 15.06.2017. • A case is pending in the Magistrate’s Court Matugama on the possession of a live grenade manufactured in a foreign country and a locally manufactured revolver and ammunition in the Welipenna Police Area on 08.01.2021. Furthermore, the following cases are also pending in Courts against this person named Loku Peti. – • Shooting and causing injuries to a person in the Ahungalla Police Area on 24.08.2022. • Shooting and killing a person in the Ahungalla Police Area on 23.09.2022. • Shooting and killing a person with a T-56 firearm in the Ahungalla Police Area on 12.10.2022. • Shooting and killing two people and causing injuries to four people in the Athurugiriya Police Area on 08.07.2024. Facts regarding this person will be reported to the court and extensive investigations are scheduled to be held having detained the suspect.

Another suspect aided and abetted a murder has been arrested along with the motorcycle the shooter arrived

Officers of the Western Province Southern District Crime Division have arrested another suspect who aided and abetted the shooting and killing of the person named Dan Priyasad from Kolonnawa on the evening of 03.052025. The motorcycle, a helmet, two mobile phones and two SIM cards used in the crime, were found in the possession of the suspect. The suspect is a 28-year-old resident of the Kolonnawa area. The suspect identified as the shooter in the murder case was arrested by the Western Province Southern District Crime Division on 02.05.2025. The said suspect is interrogated having detained for 48 hours and further investigations are underway.

The Sri Lanka Police conducts regular operations under the instructions of the Acting Inspector General of Police in order to eradicate illegal drugs from the country. Police officers, in accordance with their oath, perform their duties with immense dedication and enthusiasm while handling court proceedings and investigations related to arrested drug traffickers. A total of 494 kilograms and 48 grams of seized heroin, for which the legal proceedings have concluded, was taken to the Palaviya area in Puttalam under tight police security and destroyed in the incinerator belonging to INSEE Cement Company on 28.04.2025. This stock of heroin includes 250kg and 996g of heroin apprehended in possession of six foreign individuals during a raid conducted by the officers of Sri Lanka Navy and Police Narcotic Bureau on 15.12.2021 and 243 kg 052g of heroin apprehended in possession of 07 foreign suspects during a raid conducted by the officers of Sri Lanka Navy and Police Narcotic Bureau on 19.04.2022. The Acting Inspector General of Police, Attorney-at-Law, Priyantha Weerasooriya, having paid a visit to the Vavuniya Police Division on 25.04.2025, declared the conference hall, computer training room and the renovated ”Amba Sevana Holiday Resort” built on the premises of the Office of the Senior Superintendent of Police Vavuniya open for the use of officers. The conference hall, which was constructed by renovating the barracks that had been there, accommodates a total of 250 people and this conference hall will be of great importance for the Ichchankulam, Puliyankulam and Omantha Police Stations. Furthermore, the new computer lab built on the premises of the Office of the Senior Superintendent of Police Vavuniya intends to provide computer training workshops for officers of the Northern Province under the Information Technology Sub-Unit and it accommodates ten officers. The “Amba Sevana Holiday Resort”, which was declared open for police officers visiting the Northern Province, consists of two air-conditioned bedrooms with all the facilities and one non-air-conditioned room, a veranda, and a kitchen. Along with the Acting Inspector General of Police, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Northern Province Mr. Thilak C. A new Computer Crime Investigation Sub-Unit for the Northern Province

A programme of establishing Computer Crime Investigation Sub-Units at the provincial level is being implemented as per the instructions of the Acting Inspector General of Police, Attorney-at-Law Priyantha Weerasooriya, with the aim of providing efficient services to the public by expediting the investigation on computer crimes and crimes committed through social media. Accordingly, a Computer Crime Investigation Sub-Unit at the Jaffna Police Station was declared open to the public in the Northern Province on 25.04.2025 under the patronage of the Acting Inspector General of Police, and the following functions are expected to be performed through this Northern Provincial Sub-Unit. Investigations related to sexual harassment on social media. Investigations related to financial frauds done through social media. Investigations related to offences under the Computer Crime Act. Removal of fake Facebook accounts and questionable posts published on social media and recovery of hacked accounts. Providing necessary technical assistance to regional police stations for investigations. Under this programme, Computer Crime Investigation Sub-Units have already been established covering the Southern Province, Central Province, North Western Province, North Central Province and Eastern Province. A 27-year-old individual was arrested for keeping in possession of 13 kg and 372 g of heroin and 3 kg and 580 g of ice in a house in the Kotikawatta area of Wellampitiya on 26.04.2025 by the police officers in Malambe Police Station. The raid was conducted upon a piece of information disclosed and the suspect has been identified as a resident of Korathota in Kaduwela area. Further investigations have been initiated by the Wellampitiya Police Station to disclose information regarding the suspect and the drug trafficking network connected to him.
