S.K. Liu Scholarship

The “Donoris a private charitable organization registered in the Hong Kong SAR and its main donation criteria is to assist the education of those students who have academic potential but are lacking of financial support.

During a visit of Mr. S.K. Liu founder of the “Donor” along with his cousin IPA Member David Tak Shing of IPA Hong Kong to Sri Lanka in connection with the IPA Friendship Tour organized by the IPA Sri Lanka, he noticed that the children in Sri Lanka are of good potential but lacking of good resources for their education. In order to assist the development of the younger generation in Sri Lanka, he decided to provide financial support to the children’s education in Sri Lanka. He set up a scholarship program, for the children of the Sri Lanka Police who will be or already attending university for their education as he believes that a strong and well educated generation could better assist the future development of Sri Lanka.

He offered a total of 20 scholarships each of 5,000 Sri Lankan Rupees (or equivalent USD) per month for a period of 3 academic years. IPA Sri Lanka did administer the fund and the awarding of the Scholarships in a transparent manner.

On completion of the first programme, as the 2nd step, the Donor increased the donation to 35 Scholarships, each of Rs. 5000 per month, for a period of two academic years, for University Students who are Children of Police Officers from the year 2018.

IPA Sri Lanka is very much thankful and in debt to its Vice President Mr. D. A De Fonseka for spearheading in organizing this all important regular donation from late Mr. S K Liu. We, IPA Sri Lanka, is equally thankful to Mrs. S K Liu and her children for extending this financial support even after the demise of the founder Mr. S K Liu and to Mrs. Stella Lai of Hong Kong for coordinating this worthy program without any interruption even at present.
