The IPA at 70 – Section Sri Lanka
IPA Sri Lanka 2021, celebrated 40th year of IPA membership. The Jubilee year 2020 of the IPA’s founding 70 years back in 1950 was highlighted by many Sections.
IPA Sri Lanka was recognized by the International Executive Council (IEC) in 1974 at the conference held in Graz, Austria and since then our Section has been actively involved in all spheres of IPA activities and been a regular participant at the Annual Conferences and World Congress gatherings.
In addition, in the year 2008, IEB meeting was held in Sri Lanka, which was a significant milestone and a proud achievement for our Section. Our Members also participated regularly at various international Training Seminars/ Programs/ Webinar, Workshops and International Friendship Weeks, organized by other Sections & IEB.
IPA Sri Lanka also hosted 07 Friendship Week Tour programmes in the years of 2000, 2003, 2005, 2010, 2013, 2014 and 2018, drawing the attention and attraction of the World Body and member Sections who actively participated at these events. These events also drew the attention of many IPA Sections, especially various significant sites of historical importance, heritage interest and tourist attractive coasts of the Island with sandy beaches, calm placid warm waters for under water sporting activities.
With the concurrence of the IEB and the approval at the World Congress held in Croatia, we eagerly planned to hold the 2nd Hosting Sections Meeting in the year 2020 but due to the spread of the pandemic situation throughout the World, this event could not be held as scheduled but it is intended to hold this event in the September 2022 if once the situation is improved and returns to normalcy. We also have planned to hold the 6th young Police Officers Seminar in the year 2022 and most of the planning has already been worked-out in this regard but unless otherwise the pandemic situation returns to near normal this event too will have to be re-scheduled as appropriate.
Besides the foregoing events already held and to be held with the international participation of Sections world over, our Section has also been actively involved in holding local programmes for the benefit of both the members and their children awarding of monetary such as flood relief assistance, financial support to those who deserve monetary aids, extending financial grants to university entrant children of members, disabled and killed due to the internal conflict and logistical support to serving Police officers during the pandemic. We also held various social events to strengthen the mutual relation by holding Annual Members Day events, “Sing a Long” Musical Programs and X’mas get-togethers.
To mark the 70th Anniversary of our prestigious Mother Organization, we conducted an event extending donation of Medical Aids and equipment to 27 disabled Police Officers, to the tune of over Sri Lankan Rs. 600,000/=.
IPA has brought-forth the Police cooperation, unity and friendship amongst the police fraternity in the World and being the largest Police Organization in existence in the Continents, we are proud to be part of such a great Organization and wish the Organization and all Sections success and more and more strength to achieve significant milestones in the future !.
