On October 23, 2025, Woman Inspector of Police  Ms. Yamuna Dhammika Kumari Edirisinghe and Female Woman Police Constable Ms. Samanmali 12093, attached to the Prime Minister’s Security Division, demonstrated exemplary honesty by returning a lost wallet to its rightful owner, a British national, Ms. Sabrina Cameron. The wallet was found on Thimbirigasyaya Road in Narahenpita, and upon its discovery, the officers promptly reported the matter to the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Prime Minister’s Security Division. The OIC immediately informed the Director of the Division, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mr. Sumithra de Silva, who in turn coordinated with the Western North Crime Division. Based on the information contained in the wallet, the residence of Ms. Cameron was successfully identified. Subsequently, Ms. Sabrina Cameron visited the Prime Minister’s Security Division office, where the wallet was officially handed over to her by WIP Edirisinghe, under the supervision of the Division Director. At the time of recovery, the wallet contained Rs. 6,000 in cash, foreign currencies in US dollars and British pounds, bringing the total value to nearly Rs. 600,000. It also contained several local and international credit cards, a driver’s license, an identity card, and other essential documents. Expressing her appreciation, Ms. Cameron commended the integrity and professionalism of the Sri Lankan police officers and conveyed her heartfelt gratitude for their honesty and sense of duty.

The Police Cadet Corps is the home of the Sri Lanka Police, where the youth of this country are trained to become responsible, capable, and productive individuals who are capable of shouldering responsibilities with self-confidence.   Every student who are selected to and enrolled with the Police Cadet Corps is directed to the IGP Challenge Trophy National Police Cadet Camp. Subsequently, they are educated on the law of this country and trained to become proud citizens who have trained their minds for a successful life by mastering the ability to handle them through expert methods and strategies.  This series of photographs shows students who are successfully facing the endurance and problem-solving tests at the 2025 IGP Challenge Cup National Police Cadet Camp, which will be held at the Sri Lanka Police College, Kalutara, till 10.10.2025.

Divisional Community Policing Coordination Unit of Matale looked into the case of 11 people in the area who had lost their legs below the knee. Measures have been taken to donate prosthetic legs those people with disabilities. Concurrent with the 159th Police Day, this charity event was organized under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of Matale Division, Mr M. S. K. Wickramanayake. The event was held on 24 – 09 – 2025 at the auditorium of Matale Police Station. Assistant Superintendent of Police in charge of Matale District II, Mr  P. M. C. R. Tennakoon, OIC of Divisional Community Policing Coordination Unit of Matale, I. P Mr Hemantha Wijebandara and other officers of the unit participated in the event. ‘For Handicap Foundation’ of Kandy extends their generous support by donating a sum of Rs. 600,000. The Chief Executive Officer, Mr. S. S. Attanayake and Chief Technology Officer Sisira Kumara have graced the occasion.

Devotees who visit Anuradhapura from all over the island have tendency to visit the Tissa wewa and bathe in it. Despite all awareness programmes conducted, a considerable amount of garbage has accumulated around the lake due to the deliberate or unintended disposal of garbage in the lake premises. A Shramadan campaigns was held on 20 – 09 -2025 under the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ national programme to remove the garbage accumulated effectively from the lake premises under the leadership of Senior Superintendent of Police, Mr. Thilina Hewa Pathirana, Director of the Anuradhapura Police Division,. All the organizing activities were done by the officers of the Lifeguard Unit of Anuradhapura Division, and school children who are undergoing training under the Lifeguard Unit and mobile vendors around the Tissa Wewa were willingly extended their support for the event. Under the generous contribution made by the Aukana Lions Club, measures have been taken to install notice boards near the lake.

As it is extremely important to further develop the positive attitudes of police officers performing various demanding duties around the capital, the Police Media Division periodically directs them to enjoy excellent artistic creations. Subject to the full approval of the IGP, the Police Media Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Attorney-at Law,  F. U. Wootler, summoned police officers on duty around Colombo city to the Colombo Police Crime Division on the evening of 16.09.2025 to enjoy the play “Neinage Sooduwa” by veteran stage drama producer Kithsiri Hewagamage. A number of police officers, including senior police officers, representing all ranks, joined the Crime Report Division for the entertainment of the drama “Neinage Suduwa”, an exemplary stage play about a police hero of our past who carried out a wonderful and courageous raid to bring the thugs to justice by very strategically rescuing a section of the population oppressed by illegal, anti-social, violent thugs. The Sri Lanka Police expresses its sincere gratitude to the Rangana team, including veteran stage drama producer Kithsiri Hewagamage, who provided this performance for the police officers free of charge!

It is a well-known fact that blood transfusions are frequently necessary for patients hospitalized with grave injuries caused by fatal accidents, for various major surgeries, and for mothers experiencing complications during childbirth. The police, who happen to perform their duties in close connection with the hospital, are well aware of the value of having adequate reserve blood supply in the hospital, and therefore are motivated to regularly organize blood donation camps.  Another blood donation camp organized by the Pothuhera Police in conjunction with the 159th Police Anniversary Day on 03.09.2025 was successfully held on 09.09.2025 all day long at the police station premises. The Public Security Committee of the area and the Blood Bank of the Kurunegala General Hospital have made their fullest contribution to this program, and out of the 178 people who joined to donate blood, 128 people were able to donate blood. Sri Lanka Police would like to express sincere gratitude towards the people who participated in this event to save a life by donating a drop of blood, as well as everyone who supported the program.

The first programme implemented in the Eastern Province in the series of programmes to donate medical equipment to permanently disabled/disabled police officers and their family members, put into action based on a concept of the Hon. Chairperson of the Police Seva Vanitha Unit and the Police Family Welfare Association, Attorney-at-law, Mrs. Nilmini Nita Samaratunga, was held on 01.09.2025 at the Office Complex of Superintendent of Police Batticaloa. On this occasion, wheelchairs, forearm crutches, walkers, underarm crutches, mattresses, toilet accessories, and equipment requested for self-employment were donated to 38 permanently disabled/disabled officers. The financial support for this donation was extended by the SLOGAN International Organization and the Chairman of the said organization, Dr. A. M. I. Sadiq, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Eastern Province, Attorney-at-law, Mr. Waruna Jayasundara, Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Batticaloa Range, Mr. M. N. S. Mendis, Vice Chairperson of the Police Seva Vanitha Unit, Deputy Inspector General of Police Mrs. Nishani Seneviratne, Officers in charge of the Batticaloa, Ampara, and Trincomalee Divisions, Deputy Secretary of the Police Seva Vanitha Unit, Chief Inspector of Police, Mrs. Nimali Fonseka and other police officers participated in this event.

Driving at night without taking a proper rest during the daytime has led to many road accidents that have occurred at night. To draw the attention of drivers towards this in an innovative way, Superintendent of Police in charge of Hatton Police Division, Mr. Pradeep Weerasekara, Assistant Superintendent of Police I, Mr. Nissanka Godamunna, and Officer in Charge of Watawala Police Station Sub-Inspector of Police, Mr. Jayarathne organized a program in front of Watawala Police Station on the night of 15.08.2025. Through the said initiative, those who were driving at night on the Hatton-Colombo Main Road on that day were offered tea, and drivers as well as young children who had time were also given the opportunity to watch cartoon movies at the same place. The main objective of this programme is to remind drivers that they should take a break at least once while driving at night.

A walk organized by ‘the Bureau for the Investigation and prevention of Abuse of Children & Women’ was held in the evening of 19 – 07 – 2025 from Armour Street, Colombo to Galle Face, in order to create public awareness on the emergency number of “109” established at the headquarters of the Bureau for the Investigation and prevention of Abuse of Children & Women to make complaints on violence against children and women and problems they encounter. The walk was organized under the leadership of Mrs. Renuka Jayasundara, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of the Bureau for the Investigation and prevention of Abuse of Children & Women.  Mr. Merill Ranjan Lamahewa, Assistant Superintendent of Police of the Bureau, and around 350 police officers attached to the Divisonal Bureau for the prevention of Abuse of Children & Women serving in Gampaha, Kelaniya, Colombo Central, Colombo South, Panadura, Elpitiya, Galle, Matara, Tangalle and Kuliyapitiya Police Divisions participated in the event. The walk started aroun 2.00 pm near the headquarters of the Bureau for the Investigation and prevention of Abuse of Children & Women of Armour Street, and proceeded through Maradana, Colombo Fort Railway Station, and headed to Galle Face. During the walk, leaflets were distributed on the “109” Special Operations Room. In addition to that, awareness on prevision of violence against children and women has been created through display boards, street plays, and a special program held at Galle Face Square.
