A suspect arrested with the narcotic ice and heroin in Nawagamuwa.

In keeping with the island-wide crime and drug prevention operation conducted on the instructions of the acting Inspector General of Police, officers of Nawagamuwa Police Station stopped and searched a person who had arrived in a three-wheeler in the Korathota area of the Nawagamauwa Police Division and apprehended approximately 04 kilograms of the narcotic ice and 500 grams of heroin from the suspect’s possession. The arrested suspect is a 37-year-old resident of the Korathota area. The Nawagamuwa Police are conducting further investigations.

Four suspects, who had burgled a house at night and looted money and gold jewelry, have been taken into custody.

The Kantale Police Station and the Crime Investigation Bureau of Kantale Division have initiated investigations on burgling a house and looting gold jewelry worth over Rs. 6.2 million and cash worth Rs. 267,000/= in the Kantale Police area on the night of 04.01.2025, and have arrested four suspects. Two suspects were arrested in the Katugastota area on 11.01.2025, and based on the facts revealed during further investigation regarding those two suspects, two more suspects were taken into custody in Gampola and Sampur areas. Accordingly, a portion of the stolen gold jewelry and the car used to commit the crime and to flee have also been taken into custody by the Crime Investigation Bureau of Kantale Division. The arrested suspects are residents of Sampur, Kiliveddy, and Gampola areas, aged between 23 and 41 years. The Kantale Police Station and the Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau are conducting further investigations.

The motorcycle used in the Ahungalla shooting incident was stolen from Balapitiya three months ago.

At around 06.00 a.m. on 09.01.2025, a shooting incident occurred near the Ahungalla sacred Bo Tree, and a person who was in a three-wheeler parked at the place, got injured and was admitted to the Balapitiya Hospital. It was revealed through the preliminary investigation that the shooting had been carried out by two people riding a scooter. The officers of the Police Special Task Force have recovered the relevant scooter from the Cinnamon Estate of Denagoda. Further investigation revealed that the criminals had arrived riding the motorcycle with fake number plates and that it belonged to a person from the Balapitiya area. It was also revealed that the motorcycle had been stolen from a place near Siddhartha College, Balapitiya, on 24.09.2024. Police investigations are underway to arrest the criminals.

A suspect arrested in connection with the Weligama shooting incident.

One of the suspects of the team that shot five people with a T-56 firearm and fled at the dawn of 04.01.2025, on Maha Neviya Road, Weligama, was arrested by officers of the Matara Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau on the evening of 09.01.2025. It has been revealed that the 29-year-old suspect, who is a resident of Beliatta, was the driver of the motorcar used for getting away after the shooting. After further interrogation, the motorcar used for the shooting was also taken into custody on the evening of the same day by the police officers conducting the investigation. Investigation officers were also able to apprehend a 24-year-old suspect who arrived on a motorcycle for the shooting on 04.01.2025 along with the motorcycle. A female suspect had also been arrested earlier for aiding and abetting. A 26-year-old man was killed in the shooting that day, while a 29-year-old man was injured and admitted to the hospital. Extensive investigations are being conducted to arrest other suspects in connection with the crime.

Two More Suspects Arrested In Relation To Wattegama Fish Businessman Murder Incident

The officers of Wattegama Police Station arrested two more suspects on 08.01.2025 in relation to the crime in which a fish businessman was killed that was reported from Atalahagoda area on 04.01.2025.   The suspects who committed the murder, a 25-year-old resident of Karandeniya area and a 37-year-old resident of Khuhettimulla area, were arrested on charges of conspiracy to commit murder and criminal intimidation. A 39-year-old fish businessman residing in Atalahagoda, Wattegama area, who was seriously injured in an attack by several people with a sharp weapon, died on 01.04.2025 at around 03.25 in the morning at the Kandy intensive care unit and Officers of Wattegama Police Station arrested a 38-year-old suspect in Wattegama area on 05.01.2025 on charges of murder and conspiracy and further investigations are being carried out in this regard.  Investigations are underway to arrest other suspects as well.

A Large-Scale Liquor Smuggling Operation on the Border of Kotugoda Dadugangoya has Been Raided

The officers of Bemmulla Police Station raided a large-scale illegal liquor trade on the border of the Dadugangoya River through the middle of Minuwangoda’s Katu Goda area and seized 31140 liters of Goda in 173 barrels on 07.01.2025.    At the time of the raid, no one was present at the place and two suspects residing in Jaela Ekala area, where the racket was being carried out, have been identified and police investigations are underway to arrest them.

A drug dealer was arrested for distributing drugs to Dambulla

On the evening of 07.01.2025, a team of officers of the Narcotics Bureau Kandy, having conducted a surprise check, arrested a driver of the same three-wheeler parked in front of the People’s Bank Dambulla, in possession of 100 grams of heroin and 60 grams of ice drug. The officers had conducted this surprise inspection based on a piece of information received, and further investigations are underway to arrest other suspects of the network.

A cannabis cultivation in 5 acres uncovered in a two-day operation was set on fire

During a two-day search operation carried out in Zone 04 of the Yala Reserve, officers of the Gonagan Ara Police Station uncovered 04 cannabis cultivations covering an area of 5¼ acres on 07.01.2025 and were able to destroy about 500,000 cannabis plants, well-grown up to a height of around 4 feet. By the time the raid was conducted, no one had been there but a locally-manufactured firearm, which had been left, has been seized by the police. Three illegally imported vehicles have been seized by Police

Based on the piece of information received by the Central Anti Vice Striking Force – Walana, a group of officers of the said Unit have seized a Mitsubishi Jeep on 31.12.2024 at Pinwatta area which is said to be used by a former provincial council member residing in Pinwatta Police Area. The jeep which is similar to a military vehicle has been registered under a fake registration number of the Department of Motor Transport. It has been uncovered that the vehicles were illegally imported into Sri Lanka using fraudulent documents. Further investigation has been conducted, and accordingly, it has been revealed that 02 more Land Rover jeeps, which were said to be used by him, were parked in a house located in Ratmalana area. Measures have been taken by the Police to seize those vehicles on 01.01.2025 During the investigation conducted in relation to these 03 jeeps, it has been unveiled that these vehicles have been used under the registration numbers of the government vehicles that were condemned by the Motor Transport Department. These 03 jeeps have been handed over to the Police Station, Pinwatta. Further investigations have been carried out by the Central Anti Vice Striking Force – Walana
