06th March, 2013 marked the commencement of 78th Inter-Divisional Police Sports Meet on the theme ‘Humanity through Sports’ and it is scheduled to be held on 07th and 08th at Police Grounds of the Police Field Force Headquarters.
About 2400 male and female Police Officers representing 57 Divisions of Police take part in this grand event.

OIC Division Crime Detection Bureau (DCDB) Negombo IP Mr. Gunathilaka and a team of Police officers were able to arrest a suspect at Negombo who had stolen some jewellery worth 5 lacks and electronic items such as 3 Laptops, a number of mobile phones, digital cameras and some musical instruments.

Stationeries and other items including schoolbags, shoes, water bottles, etc. were donated to 67 school children with financial difficulties from 3 schools in the area by the Community Police Unit, Kotahene under the leadership of Chief Inspector Mr. Hemantha Ovitigama OIC, Police Station – Kotahena. This function was held at Deepaduththaraama Temple, Kotahena.

Two 18 and 22 year old suspects have been arrested and 4 counterfeit notes of Rs.2000, 3 counterfeit notes of Rs.1000 and computer accessories and paper that had been used for printing, have been seized by a team of Police Officers including Officer in Charge of Kuruwita Police – Inspector of Police, R. P. Siriwardhane at 1320 hours on 21st February, 2013 at Vitharapanguwa, Erathna in Kuruwita Police Area. Today, it is scheduled to produce the suspects before the Magistrate’s Court – Ratnapura. Further investigations are being carried out in this regard.

An Austrian Woman who was bathing in the sea with her husband at the coastal belt near the Golden Beach Hotel had been swept out to sea by a rip current at Alice Watta, Uppuweli on 20th February, 2013.

Following a tip-off received by the Special Investigation Unit of Mirihana Police, a woman who deals in heroin in Arrewwala area was taken into custody by a team of police officers including the OIC – Special Investigations Unit, IP Nimal Karunarathne.
